What they need
About us
Tūhoe is an iwi with a clear vision for the future of wellness, and Te Uru Taumatua has a strategy in place to bring that vision to life.
Our vision recognises that lasting wellness is built within whānau, hapū and communities. We are working towards a future where hapū are equipped, empowered and supported to play a leading role in the prevention and management of chronic health conditions. As this capability grows, many of the challenges that currently present at our medical centres will increasingly be addressed within whānau and hapū settings.
Within this wider approach, our medical centres are an important part of the overall system of care. Their role is to provide high-quality clinical services and expertise when medical intervention is required, particularly for acute illness, injury and complex health needs.
To deliver this well, great clinical care must be supported by great administration.
We are seeking a capable and organised Medical Administrator to join our team, supporting our Kawerau and Taneatua Medical Centres.
About the Role
Our Medical Administrators are the engine room of our medical centres.
Working largely behind the scenes, they support the systems, processes and administration that allow our doctors, nurses and healthcare teams to do their best work. Their contribution is critical to the smooth operation of our clinics and the delivery of quality healthcare services to our communities.
This role involves a wide range of administrative responsibilities, including managing patient information, processing referrals and correspondence, maintaining accurate records, supporting clinical workflows and ensuring information moves efficiently throughout the practice.
While the majority of the role is administrative, you will also contribute to reception cover when required. This means you will be comfortable interacting professionally and respectfully with patients and whānau, while maintaining a strong focus on accuracy, organisation and efficiency behind the scenes.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys creating order, solving problems and supporting others to succeed.
What We're Looking For
Previous experience as a Medical Administrator is advantageous, but it is not essential.
We're looking for someone with the right attitude, work ethic and transferable skills. If you bring strong administrative capability and a willingness to learn, we can provide the training and support needed to succeed in the healthcare environment.
You may have experience in administration, office support, customer service, education, finance, local government or another role where organisation, attention to detail and time management are essential.
You will bring:
- Strong administration and organisational skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Effective time management and the ability to manage competing priorities
- Confidence using computer systems and learning new processes
- A proactive and reliable work ethic
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Professional communication skills
- A willingness to support reception services when needed
- A positive, adaptable and solutions-focused approach
Why Join Us?
This is an opportunity to be part of a team that understands every role contributes to quality healthcare.
While clinicians provide expert medical care, Medical Administrators provide the structure, systems and support that make that care possible. Without strong administration, medical centres cannot function effectively.
You'll join a supportive team where your contribution is valued and where you'll have the opportunity to develop new skills and build a meaningful career in healthcare administration.
We offer:
- Full training and support for the right candidate
- A meaningful role within a kaupapa-driven organisation
- A supportive and collaborative team environment
- Variety and opportunities to develop new skills
- The opportunity to work alongside dedicated healthcare professionals
- A role where your work makes a difference every day
Join Our Team
If you're organised, dependable and take pride in making things run smoothly behind the scenes, we'd love to hear from you.
We welcome applications from suitably qualified candidates from all backgrounds. Applicants must already hold the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
