Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients, verify patient information, and prepare them for examinations and procedures.
  • Obtain and document vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation, and weight.
  • Perform venipuncture and collect blood specimens when properly trained and authorized.
  • Initiate and maintain IV access and assist with IV therapy within the employee's legally authorized scope of practice.
  • Prepare examination rooms, medical supplies, and equipment for patient visits.
  • Assist physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare providers during examinations and clinical procedures.
  • Administer medications and injections only when permitted by applicable law, credentials, and provider authorization.
  • Monitor patients during and after procedures and promptly report adverse reactions or changes in condition.
  • Accurately document patient histories, clinical observations, procedures, and other relevant information in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Communicate with Spanish-speaking patients to explain routine instructions, appointment information, and care procedures within the employee's role and qualifications.
  • Assist with patient scheduling, follow-up calls, and coordination of care as needed.
  • Maintain infection-control standards, sterilize or disinfect equipment as appropriate, and ensure proper disposal of medical waste and sharps.
  • Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements and organizational policies.
  • Maintain adequate clinical supplies and ensure examination rooms remain clean, organized, and ready for use.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical Assistant certification or equivalent qualifications appropriate for the position.
  • Current IV certification and demonstrated competency in IV-related procedures.
  • Fluency in both spoken and written English and Spanish.
  • Previous experience in a medical office, outpatient clinic, cardiology practice, or similar healthcare setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, infection control, patient safety, and clinical documentation.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) systems.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Professional demeanor, reliability, and a patient-centered approach.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Experience communicating with diverse patient populations.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple clinical responsibilities.

Skills and Competencies

  • Bilingual patient communication: English and Spanish.
  • IV insertion, maintenance, and monitoring within authorized scope.
  • Phlebotomy and specimen handling.
