About Community Health Services
Since 1971, Community Health Services has provided affordable preventive health care to residents of the Roaring Fork Valley, from Aspen to Parachute. We are a nonprofit safety-net clinic and a Title X family planning provider. We serve many uninsured and Spanish-speaking patients and offer a sliding fee scale so no one is turned away for inability to pay. Our services include women’s health and family planning, breast and cervical cancer screening, prenatal care, immunizations, STI testing and treatment, and oral health.
The Role
The Medical Assistant works alongside our providers, nurses, and medical assistant to keep clinic days running smoothly. The position adds capacity as CHS expands bilingual primary care and provides coverage across programs when colleagues are out. There may be potential for the position to grow into a full-time role.
What You’ll Do
- Room patients, take vital signs, and document intake in the electronic health record (CureMD).
- Prepare charts before visits, including outside records through Contexture, so results and histories are ready at the appointment.
- Set up for and assist providers with exams and minor procedures; collect, label, and send specimens.
- Clean and sterilize instruments, maintain autoclave and spore-testing logs, restock rooms, and track supply expiration dates.
- Interpret between patients and providers in Spanish and English.
- Support care coordination: follow up on lab results and referrals, schedule mammograms and diagnostic tests, and help patients with forms and social-needs screening.
- Complete superbills and visit documentation accurately and on time.
- Provide cross-coverage for clinic operations during staff absences or high-volume periods, within the scope of the Medical Assistant role.
- Help at vaccine clinics and community outreach events as needed.
What You Bring
Required
- Fluency in spoken Spanish and English.
- Completion of a medical assistant program, or at least one year of clinical or medical office experience.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology and comfort with an electronic health record.
- Current BLS certification, or the ability to obtain it within 30 days of hire.
- Reliability, discretion with confidential information, and a warm, respectful manner with patients.
- Ability to stand and move for much of a clinic day and to lift up to 25 pounds.
Preferred
- National MA certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or NCMA) and phlebotomy training.
- Experience in family planning, women’s health, or a community or safety-net clinic.
- Familiarity with CureMD and Contexture.
Students and recent graduates of the Colorado Mountain College Medical Assistant program are encouraged to apply.
