What they need
Candidates: As part of your application, please email your CV and cover letter as PDF files (exported from Word or Google Docs — not photos or scans) to [email protected], rather than applying through Seek. We will then review and shortlist candidates.
Are you an internationally-trained doctor building your career toward registration in New Zealand? WeCare is offering an exciting full-time opportunity for a Medical Associate to join our supportive, high-performing Faringdon team on a structured, supervised clinical development pathway.
This is a rare chance to gain hands-on New Zealand primary care experience while you progress through your pathway toward Medical Council of New Zealand registration. As a Medical Associate you'll be a valued member of our collaborative care team, building your clinical skills and confidence in the New Zealand context — with real supervision, mentoring, and a clear pathway to grow.
About the role
Our Medical Associates play a valued and integral role within our clinical team. Working under the direction and delegation of our Registered and Enrolled Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Associates, GPs and Medical Director, you'll support safe, efficient, patient-centred care while progressing through a structured, three-phase clinical development pathway:
- Foundation: triage using approved protocols, repeat prescriptions under delegation, clinical observations, ECGs, urinalysis and venepuncture/blood tests.
- Expanding responsibility: responding to patient queries, inbox and results management, and preparing referrals for clinician review and sign-off.
- Supported clinical care: structured supervised patient assessments and consults, contributing to treatment planning, and performing minor procedures under supervision once trained.
Alongside your clinical development you'll help keep our clinics running smoothly — supporting infection control and cold chain compliance, stock management and ordering, daily clinic set-up, clinical administration and reception cover as required. It's a varied, fast-paced and genuinely rewarding role. All care is delivered in a way that is safe, culturally appropriate, patient-centred, and aligned with Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
The WeCare Way — you'll thrive here if you live our values
We look for people who embody our three core values — Empowered, Collaborative and Growth-minded:
- Empowered — You take ownership of doing what's right for the patient and the team, use good judgement to resolve problems, and own the outcome — escalating promptly whenever supervision or safety requires it.
- Collaborative — You combine your strengths with capable colleagues, share knowledge, give and receive honest feedback, and treat everyone with respect while doing your share toward our common goal: better access for patients.
- Growth-minded — You drive your own learning, name the gaps you want to close, welcome feedback as an opportunity, and keep asking "what can I learn to better help patients?"
You'll be set up for success if you:
- Are an internationally-trained doctor progressing through the pathway toward Medical Council of New Zealand registration
- Have a genuine passion for helping people and delivering a positive healthcare experience
- Are kind and courteous, with excellent, clear communication with colleagues and patients
- Are diligent, reliable and take real ownership of your work and its outcomes
- Are able to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team
- Are resilient, motivated, adaptable and forward-thinking, and can work in a fast-paced environment
- Are willing and able to learn, undertake training, and adapt to a changing environment
- Are committed to culturally safe, equitable care and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
