What they need
Who We Are
XpertDox is a big-data healthcare startup based in Scottsdale, Arizona. We leverage advanced data analytics and proprietary natural language processing to structure, parse, and map information from highly diverse data sources. Our technology improves access to clinical trials and automates complex medical coding workflows at scale.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Remote Medical Auditor with strong Evaluation & Management (E/M) coding expertise to audit the output of our AI-enabled medical coding platform (XpertCoding). This person will validate AI-assigned CPT/ICD-10/HCPCS codes, modifiers, units, and E/M levels against the medical record and payer/CMS requirements. The auditor will document clear, defensible rationales for approvals and corrections, ensure audit-trail quality, and help reduce downstream denials and compliance risk.
Role & responsibilities
- Audit Coding Output: Review and validate AI-generated codes and modifiers against documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- E/M Validation: Confirm that documentation supports the E/M level selected, including medical decision making and/or time-based coding when applicable.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance: Ensure coding is compliant with CMS, payer guidelines, and industry regulations; reduce audit and denial exposure.
- Documentation Review: Confirm medical necessity and that the record supports the codes billed; flag missing or conflicting documentation.
- Error Analysis & Reporting: Identify trends in AI errors, high-risk patterns, and recurring documentation issues; summarize findings for leadership.
- Feedback & Process Improvement: Provide structured feedback to improve the autonomous coding engine and help train internal coding teams on complex cases.
- Regulatory Updates: Stay current on CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, telehealth rules/modifiers, and E/M guideline updates; apply changes consistently.
Key Skills
- Strong E/M expertise (office/outpatient and/or relevant specialty workflows).
- High attention to detail with speed and consistency.
- Strong written communication for audit rationale (clear, concise, defensible notes).
- Analytical thinking and pattern recognition (ability to spot repeat issues and root causes).
- Comfort reviewing AI-assisted outputs and working with EHR/documentation workflows.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and pathophysiology sufficient to validate clinical support.
Benefits
- Unlimited paid time off
- Work in a cutting-edge medical coding environment
- Remote role
