Medical Billing and Coding Instructor (Part-Time—Evening)

The Adult and Community Education program of the St. Charles City School District is seeking an experienced medical billing and coding instructor to teach evening courses. These courses are part-time in nature and offered based upon meeting student enrollment minimums. The adult education instructor will work under the general supervision of the Adult and Community Education Assistant Director.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to…

• Plan, develop, and instruct the principles of the foundation of a medical vocabulary
• Provide learner guidance to students in a classroom environment favorable to lifelong learning and personal growth.
• Establish effective rapport with students, and motivate students to develop attitudes and knowledge needed to ensure that effective learning occurs.
• Prepare and maintain all required documentation and administrative reports.
• Maintain a secure classroom environment.

Strong knowledge of…

• The subject matter being taught.
• Adult teaching and learning principles, curriculum development, training methods, and test development, if necessary.
• Classroom management skills.

Qualifications…

• High school diploma required.
• (3) years of occupational experience in the subject field and a current license, certification, or another credential as required by local, state, and/or federal laws to work in the field.
• Must hold a current license, certification, or another credential as required by local, state, and/or federal laws to work in the field. Typical certifications held or to be obtained are CMA, RMA, CMAA, CBCS, CPC, etc.
• Certified through AHIMA, AAPC, or NHA as a billing specialist
• Knowledge of anatomy & physiology, medical terminology, revenue cycle management, ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and coding modifiers
• Must have an understanding of the certification process.
• Proven experience in teaching the adult learner.
• Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Terms of Employment: Part-time as per class schedule. No benefits.

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour

Education:

• High school or equivalent (Preferred)

Experience:

• Teaching: 1 year (Preferred)
• ICD-10: 3 years (Preferred)
• Medical coding: 3 years (Preferred)

License/Certification:

• Certification (Preferred)
