Medical Coder and Biller

Acadia Eye Center is seeking an experienced, organized, and detail-oriented Optometric Biller to join our team. We are looking for someone who understands the billing side of an optometric/medical practice and can confidently manage claims from submission through payment.

The ideal candidate is dependable, accurate, comfortable working independently, and willing to take ownership of the billing process. Experience with optometry, ophthalmology, or medical billing is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Submit and process medical and vision insurance claims accurately and timely
• Review claims for correct diagnosis and procedure coding prior to submission
• Post insurance payments and adjustments
• Review and work outstanding accounts receivable
• Follow up on unpaid, rejected, and denied claims
• Research denials and submit corrected claims or appeals when appropriate
• Verify insurance information and identify billing or eligibility issues
• Review EOBs and payer correspondence
• Communicate with insurance companies regarding claim status and payment issues
• Identify recurring billing problems and help develop solutions
• Maintain accurate documentation of billing activity and follow-up
• Work closely with providers and office staff to obtain information needed for clean claim submission
• Assist with patient account questions when needed
• Maintain patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA requirements

Qualifications

• Previous medical billing experience preferred
• Optometry or ophthalmology billing experience strongly preferred
• Knowledge of medical insurance, vision plans, EOBs, denials, and accounts receivable
• Familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 coding
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Excellent organizational and follow-through skills
• Comfortable communicating with insurance companies and resolving claim issues
• Ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple outstanding claims
• Strong computer skills and ability to learn practice-management software
• Dependable, professional, and able to work both independently and as part of a team

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who doesn't simply submit claims and wait for payment. We want a biller who follows the claim through the entire process, notices when something doesn't look right, researches the problem, and works toward a resolution.

The right person will be proactive, organized, and comfortable taking responsibility for keeping our accounts receivable moving.
