What they need
At Expand Family Health, we believe healthcare should be personal, engaging, and fun—not just for our patients, but for our team, too.
We are a growing nurse practitioner-led primary care practice that is passionate about providing exceptional patient care while creating a workplace where people enjoy coming to work. We work hard, support each other, laugh a lot, and take pride in doing things the right way.
We are looking for a Medical Coder & Biller who is detail-oriented, motivated, organized, and passionate about helping our practice run smoothly behind the scenes. If you love medical coding and billing, have a sharp eye for details, and can keep up in a fast-paced environment while still having fun, you may be exactly who we're looking for.
What You'll Do
As our Medical Coder & Biller, you'll play an important role in keeping the financial side of our practice running smoothly. You'll help make sure the work our providers do for our patients is accurately documented, coded, billed, and reimbursed.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Review medical records, provider documentation, and visit notes to ensure accurate coding and billing.
- Assign appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes based on documentation and current coding guidelines.
- Review claims for accuracy and submit clean claims to insurance companies.
- Follow up on unpaid, denied, and rejected claims and work to resolve issues efficiently.
- Assist with accounts receivable and the overall revenue cycle process.
- Identify coding, documentation, or billing issues and communicate with our providers and team to get them resolved.
- Stay up to date on insurance requirements, coding changes, and healthcare regulations.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to billing and coding.
- Work within our Elation EHR and other billing/administrative systems.
- Help identify ways we can improve our billing processes and make our practice more efficient.
- Be a team player who is willing to jump in and help wherever needed. At Expand Family Health, we all wear a few different hats!
What we're looking for
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience in medical coding and billing, preferably in a primary care or outpatient setting.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding and medical terminology.
- Experience with insurance claims, denials, accounts receivable, and revenue cycle management.
- Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance billing requirements.
- Experience with electronic claims submission and payer portals.
- Experience working with an EHR/EMR system; Elation experience is a plus.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to catch the little things that can make a big difference.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- The ability to work independently while also communicating and collaborating well with the team.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- The ability to stay focused and productive in a busy, fast-paced environment.
- Someone who takes pride in their work and genuinely cares about doing things correctly.
- A sense of humor and the ability to have a little fun while getting the job done!
Education & Certification
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical billing, healthcare administration, or related education preferred.
- Active medical billing certification is required. Candidates without a current, recognized billing certification will not be considered.
