Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable Medical Coder and Biller Instructor to join our educational team. In this role, you will deliver comprehensive training to aspiring medical coders and billers, equipping them with the skills necessary to excel in healthcare revenue cycle management. Your expertise will help students master ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding, HCPCS, and medical billing procedures while ensuring they understand the latest guidelines from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). You will play a vital role in fostering a deep understanding of health information management, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology essential for accurate coding and billing practices.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver engaging online courses on medical coding, billing, and health information management using learning technology platforms.
• Teach students how to accurately apply ICD-9, ICD-10-CM (Clinical Modification), CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), HCPCS (Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System), and other coding systems aligned with medical coding guidelines.
• Review documentation to ensure compliance with industry standards and CMS requirements; provide constructive feedback to students for improvement.
• Create lesson plans that incorporate anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and documentation review to enhance student understanding of the revenue cycle management process.
• Facilitate classroom or virtual instruction sessions focused on coding for hospital billing, outpatient procedures, and insurance reimbursement processes.
• Assess student progress through exams, assignments, and practical coding exercises; maintain detailed records of performance.
• Stay current with updates in electronic health records (EHR) management systems like Epic and other relevant health information technology tools.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in medical office settings with expertise in ICD-9, ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT coding, HCPCS, and medical billing procedures.
• Strong knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle management including hospital billing practices.
• Experience teaching or training adult learners in higher education or professional development environments; online instruction experience is highly preferred.
• Familiarity with Epic EHR systems and other electronic health records management platforms.
• In-depth understanding of CMS guidelines and medical coding standards; ability to interpret complex documentation accurately.
• Excellent lesson planning skills with the ability to translate technical content into accessible learning modules.
• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and documentation review processes essential for effective teaching.
• Strong communication skills combined with a passion for education and professional development in healthcare.

Pay: $27.00 - $35.00 per hour
