Medical Coder

Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Coder to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of medical coding standards, billing procedures, and health insurance processes. As a Medical Coder, you will be responsible for translating medical documentation into accurate codes used for billing and reimbursement, ensuring compliance with industry guidelines. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to efficient revenue cycle management while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and integrity in medical records.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze medical records, including physician notes, diagnostic reports, and treatment documentation to assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT, and DRG codes.
• Ensure coding accuracy in accordance with current medical coding guidelines and insurance requirements for inpatient and outpatient services.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers and billing teams to clarify documentation and resolve coding discrepancies.
• Utilize billing software, Electronic Medical Records (EMR), and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems to accurately input coding data for claims processing.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of health insurance policies, third-party billing procedures, and revenue cycle management practices.
• Assist in the preparation of insurance claims, verifying that all necessary codes are correctly applied for efficient claim processing and reimbursement.
• Conduct regular audits of coded records to ensure compliance with industry standards and improve overall coding quality.
• Stay informed about changes in medical terminology, coding updates (including ICD-10), and medical collection practices to ensure ongoing accuracy.

Skills

• Proficiency in ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding systems, including DRG classification for inpatient services.
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and clinical procedures.
• Experience with billing software platforms and EMR/EHR systems used for electronic health record management.
• Familiarity with health insurance claim processing, third-party billing procedures, and revenue cycle management.
• Understanding of medical coding guidelines and compliance standards across various healthcare settings.
• Excellent attention to detail with the ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately.
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with healthcare providers, billing teams, and insurance companies.
• MEDENT experience a plus
