What they need

Medical Receptionist / Administrator

Cromwell Medical Centre | Full-time (40 hours per week) | Permanent

About the Role

Are you an experienced Medical Receptionist who enjoys helping people and being part of a supportive team? Join a purpose-driven organisation committed to improving health outcomes for communities across Aotearoa New Zealand.

Cromwell Medical Centre is seeking a friendly, professional and motivated Medical Receptionist to join our busy general practice. This is a full-time, permanent position offering 40 hours per week for someone who takes pride in delivering excellent patient service, supporting patients with care and compassion, and helping ensure the smooth and efficient day-to-day running of the practice.

As one of the first points of contact for our patients, you will play an important role in creating a welcoming, positive and professional experience. Working closely with our reception, nursing and clinical teams, you will help provide a high standard of service and contribute to positive health outcomes for our community.

What You'll Do

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Welcoming patients and providing friendly, professional assistance at reception.
  • Answering telephone enquiries and booking, changing and coordinating patient appointments.
  • Processing payments, invoicing and other reception-related administrative tasks.
  • Managing patient enrolments, transfers and associated documentation.
  • Liaising closely with clinicians, nurses and other members of the wider practice team.
  • Maintaining accurate patient records and upholding the highest standards of privacy and confidentiality.
  • Supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of the practice and assisting colleagues where needed.

What You'll Bring

We are looking for someone who is approachable, organised and proactive, with a genuine passion for helping people and contributing to a positive team environment.

Ideally, you will bring:

  • At least one year of previous medical reception or relevant healthcare administration experience, preferably within general practice, primary care or another busy healthcare setting.
  • A sound understanding of general practice and its day-to-day operations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with patients and colleagues.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, with a warm, professional and patient-focused approach.
  • Good computer literacy and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy when handling patient information and administrative tasks.
  • The ability to remain calm, organised and solution-focused while managing competing priorities.
  • A proactive attitude, with the initiative to recognise what needs to be done and take action.
  • A genuine team focus and a willingness to support colleagues.
  • A commitment to health equity and providing culturally safe, inclusive service to patients from all backgrounds.

Experience with MedTech Evolution would be highly advantageous.

Most importantly, you will genuinely enjoy working with people and understand the importance of treating every patient with kindness, dignity and respect.

We understand that you may not have every skill or piece of experience listed above**.** If you have relevant experience, transferable skills, a positive attitude and a willingness to learn, we encourage you to apply. We value the right person just as much as the right experience and welcome applications from people who are enthusiastic about contributing to our team and community.

What We Offer

At Cromwell Medical Centre, we believe a supportive team and positive workplace make a real difference. We offer:

  • A welcoming, supportive and collaborative workplace.
  • A strong team environment where reception, nursing and clinical teams work closely together.
  • No weekend, public holiday or after-hours work.
  • Ongoing learning and professional development opportunities.
  • The opportunity to build on your experience and develop your skills within primary healthcare.
  • A rewarding role where your contribution, experience and initiative make a meaningful difference to patients and the wider team.
