Medical Receptionist

About the role

This is a patient reception and customer service role in a medical practice. You will greet patients professionally, manage arrivals, registrations and check-ins, and answer patient enquiries in person, by phone and electronically while maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy at all times.

Key responsibilities

• Greet patients professionally and courteously
• Manage patient arrivals, registrations and check-ins
• Answer patient enquiries in person, by phone and electronically
• Schedule, reschedule and cancel appointments
• Manage urgent, routine, follow-up and walk-in appointments
• Use the practice booking system effectively (e.g. Best Practice, HotDoc)
• Register new patients and update existing patient information
• Process Medicare, private and other relevant payments
• Receive and manage incoming correspondence, referrals and medical reports
• Answer incoming calls promptly and professionally

About you

• Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy at all times
• Follow Australian privacy and health-record requirements
• Protect passwords, computer systems and patient information
• Communicate effectively with doctors, nurses, Practice Manager and other staff
• Follow practice policies, procedures and workplace health and safety requirements
• Avoid providing clinical advice unless appropriately authorised and trained
