About Chyron
Chyron is a global leader in products, services, and solutions for professional broadcast and live production. Our products help create content viewed by audiences around the world every day across television, news, sports, corporate, government, house of worship, esports, and education markets.
Product Summary
Chyron Video Core is a new, largely greenfield application providing shared video I/O, routing, synchronization, switching, and compositing capabilities across the company’s product portfolio. Its modern, extensible architecture will create a common foundation for integrating video hardware, network streams, and external rendering engines. This will help standardize video workflows across a diverse range of company products while supporting reliable, frame-accurate, low-latency operation on Windows and Linux.
Role Summary
We are looking for a technically experienced Product Owner who will guide the development of Video Core while also contributing directly to its C++ implementation. The role will be more focused on product ownership—understanding the needs of internal product teams, defining requirements, maintaining priorities, and coordinating delivery. The remaining capacity will involve hands-on C++ development, prototyping, technical investigation, and code review.
You will work closely with Product Management, your development and QA team, and development teams that will integrate Video Core into their products. The role is suited to someone who can connect product needs with engineering realities, make practical scope and priority decisions, and remain technically involved in the solution. Regular onsite presence is required to work with SDI hardware and laboratory-based testing setups.
Responsibilities
- Own, maintain, and communicate the roadmap and development priorities for Chyron Video Core as a shared internal platform, balancing the needs of consuming products with architectural, technical, and operational requirements.
- Understand the video I/O, processing, and integration needs of product teams across the company.
- Translate product goals and technical use cases into clear requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and development priorities.
- Own and maintain the product backlog, ensuring that upcoming work is sufficiently understood and ready for implementation.
- Define practical delivery phases, including prototypes, foundational capabilities, integration milestones, and production-readiness objectives.
- Balance feature value, technical complexity, product dependencies, platform consistency, and long-term maintainability.
- Coordinate requirements, API contracts, and expectations among engineering, SQA,, and integrating product teams.
- Review development progress, validate completed functionality, and ensure that delivered capabilities address the intended use cases.
- Identify product, integration, capacity, timing, and hardware-related risks early and help drive them toward resolution.
- Support the adoption of Video Core by other product teams through clear integration guidance and technical communication.
- Contribute hands-on to the implementation of Video Core using modern C++.
- Develop prototypes and selected production components related to video I/O, routing, synchronization, switching, or compositing.
- Participate in architectural discussions, technical investigations, debugging, testing, and code reviews.
- Work with SDI, NDI, SMPTE ST 2110, streaming, external-rendering, and hardware-based workflows as the product evolves.
Must Haves
- Professional experience as a Product Owner, Technical Product Owner, product-focused technical lead, or in a comparable role.
- Ability to understand stakeholder needs and translate them into clear, actionable engineering requirements.
- Strong prioritization skills and the ability to make practical decisions involving scope, value, risk, and technical complexity.
- Professional software development experience with modern C++ and the ability to contribute to production code.
- Understanding of multithreading, synchronization, and thread safety.
- Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
- Clear written and verbal communication across technical and non-technical teams.
- Ability to work independently, organize work proactively, and maintain focus across both product and development responsibilities.
- Willingness to work with hardware-connected workflows, existing components, and onsite testing environments.
- A degree in software engineering, computer science, or a related subject, or equivalent practical experience.
Nice to Have
- Experience with broadcast, professional video, media processing, or other real-time systems.
- Experience with SDI, NDI, SMPTE ST 2110, or IP-based production workflows.
- Experience defining shared platforms, SDKs, APIs, or infrastructure used by multiple product teams.
- Familiarity with Blackmagic, Deltacast, Matrox, or similar video I/O hardware.
- Experience with OpenGL, DirectX, Vulkan, CUDA, or GPU-resource sharing.
- Experience with gRPC, service APIs, or producer/consumer integration models.
- Experience with CMake, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, or build automation.
- Familiarity with iterative or Agile product-development practices.
- Experience introducing a new technical platform and supporting its adoption by other teams.
What We Offer
- The opportunity to help build a new foundational platform for professional broadcast products.
- Meaningful involvement in the technical direction and implementation of a largely greenfield project.
- Close collaboration with experienced engineers and teams across the company.
- Exposure to SDI, NDI, SMPTE ST 2110, GPU processing, and professional video workflows.
- A practical engineering environment where reliability, maintainability, and long-term product quality matter.
