What they need
Overview:
Every member's experience at the Y starts with you. As a Member Engagement Representative, you're the first friendly face people see walking through the door and the calm, helpful voice they hear on the phone. You give tours, answer questions, and make sure everyone, from someone joining for the first time to a member who's been coming for years, feels welcome the moment they walk in.
No two shifts look the same. One minute you're walking a prospective member through the building, the next you're helping someone update their account or pointing a parent toward the pool schedule. If you love people and enjoy being the one who makes their day a little easier, this role is built for you.
OUR CULTURE:
The YMCA of Greater Kansas City’s mission and core values are brought to life by our culture. It’s who we are, who we aspire to be and how we show up every day. We are cause-driven. We don’t just show up, we show up with purpose. We are welcoming: we are open to all. We are a place where you can belong and become. We are genuine: we value you and embrace your individuality. We are hopeful: we believe in you and your potential to become a catalyst in the world. We are nurturing: we support you in your journey to develop your full potential. We are determined: above all else, we are on a relentless quest to make our community stronger beginning with you.
Responsibilities:
- Greet members, participants and guests with a warm, genuine welcome, in person and on the phone
- Give tours to prospective members and introduce them to our programs, classes and volunteer opportunities
- Stay up to date on everything happening in the center so you can speak knowledgeably about our programs, classes and services
- Answer phones and direct calls and visitors to the right person
- Check in members and verify visits using our membership system
- Process membership and program transactions, and keep an accurate, balanced cash drawer
- Listen to member concerns and handle complaints in a friendly, courteous manner
- Flag safety concerns, needed repairs, incidents or accidents to the team right away
- Keep the welcome center and lobby clean, organized and inviting
Qualifications:
- At least 16 years old
- A genuine interest in connecting with people from all backgrounds and walks of life
- Strong communication skills, in person and on the phone
- A level head and a calm, patient approach when a member is frustrated
- Comfortable multitasking and staying organized in a fast paced, high energy environment
- Basic math skills for handling cash and fees accurately
- Confidence picking up new software and technology
- Ability to work independently and use good judgment with minimal supervision
- No prior experience required, we'll train you
