Job Description: Senior Mendix Developer with Apache Kafka Integration

Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Senior Mendix Developer with strong hands-on experience in Apache Kafka and event-driven architecture. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain scalable low-code applications that seamlessly communicate with real-time data streaming pipelines. You will bridge low-code business logic with distributed messaging, writing custom Java actions where necessary to connect Mendix applications to enterprise Kafka brokers.

Key Responsibilities

• App Development: Design, build, and deploy low-code web and mobile applications using Mendix Studio Pro.
• Kafka Integration: Integrate Mendix applications with Apache Kafka, Confluent Cloud, or Mendix Event Broker using standard connectors, REST/Java Actions, and custom Kafka Java APIs.
• Event-Driven Architecture: Implement publish/subscribe pipelines, real-time message producers, and asynchronous event consumers using microflows, nanoflows, and task queues.
• Data Serialization & Mapping: Create JSON and Avro schema-based export/import mappings to convert Mendix domain model entities into streaming event payloads and vice versa.
• Java Customization: Extend Mendix capabilities by writing custom Java actions for advanced Kafka producer/consumer configurations (e.g., SASL/SSL authentication, schema registries, thread management).
• Performance & Reliability: Optimize message processing throughput, manage consumer lag, configure retry policies, dead-letter queues (DLQ), and exception handling.
• Collaboration & CI/CD: Partner with enterprise architects, backend engineers, and DevOps teams to manage deployments, environment constants, and Mendix Cloud / Kubernetes private environments.

Required Qualifications & Technical Skills

Mendix Expertise

• 3+ years of hands-on Mendix development experience (Studio Pro 9/10/11).
• Strong command over Domain Models, Microflows, Naneflows, Page Design, and XPath queries.
• Experience with Mendix Business Events / Event Broker or Third-Party Kafka Connectors.
• Experience in Mendix security, user management, and performance tuning.

Apache Kafka & Integration

• 2+ years of practical experience working with Apache Kafka (Confluent, AWS MSK, or self-hosted clusters).
• Deep understanding of event-driven concepts: Topics, Partitioning, Consumer Groups, Offsets, Producer/Consumer APIs, and Serialization (JSON / Avro).
• Familiarity with Kafka security protocols (SASL/SCRAM, SSL/TLS, OAuth, Key Vaults).

General Technical Background

• Java Development: Proficiency in Java for writing custom Mendix Java Actions and handling external Java libraries (.jar dependencies).
• APIs & Data Formats: Experience with REST, SOAP, JSON, XML, and database query languages.
• DevOps & Cloud: Knowledge of Mendix Cloud, Docker, Kubernetes, or CI/CD pipelines.
