What they need

Overview

Colliers Project Leaders is currently looking for a MEP Commissioning Intern to join our team in Boston, MA during Summer 2027.

We deliver real energy savings in buildings, spaces, and systems that perform optimally and maximize comfort and safety. MEP Commissioning (MEPCx) is a rapidly growing field in the construction industry. MEPCx is the 3rd party review of the design and construction of the HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems of buildings for energy efficiency and durability.

Our team includes engineers, controls experts, and sustainability professionals. We are national leaders and industry authorities whose proactive, hands-on approach delivers real results. Our unique dual perspective sets us apart—technical expertise to evaluate, understand, and critique systems design and the operational knowledge to maximize systems and equipment performance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with in-field review of the HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems for new construction and renovation projects.
  • Work alongside technical staff assisting with field observation work, preparing detailed field visit reports, and documenting project issues through resolution.
  • Assist with reviewing contractor submittals, shop drawings, and requests for information.
  • Read and review mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Assist with ensuring that all systems and equipment are functional tested.
  • Confer with project managers during planning, design, and construction phases.
  • Prepare reports and document project activities and data.
  • Prepare analyses from collected data.
  • Travel to job sites or offices in New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts required.
  • In addition to the work-centered program, we also offer robust internship programming, which includes opportunities to work with other interns, learn about other areas of the business, and develop valuable communication skills and networking connections.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Architectural Engineering.
  • Must have reliable transportation to the office and project sites across New England.
  • Previous intern or co-op experience in commissioning, energy audits, or other engineering functions preferred.
  • Previous coursework in HVAC, Plumbing, Building Electrical Systems, or Architecture preferred.
  • Possess solid problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision and as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Must be able to work in a high-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • A valid driver's license and good driving record required.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Compensation: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour (depending on qualifications)
