What they need

Position Overview

The Contract & Procurement Manager will lead end-to-end procurement and contract management for critical project packages, including Civil and MEP (Low Side & High Side) works. The role is responsible for developing sourcing strategies, drafting and negotiating construction contracts, managing tendering and bid processes, mitigating commercial and contractual risk, and resolving claims and disputes in line with Indian and international (FIDIC) frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

Contract Drafting & Administration

  • Draft, review, and negotiate various construction contracts (EPC, Item Rate, Turnkey, and Lump-Sum).
  • Ensure all contract documents align with the Indian Contract Act, 1872, and relevant FIDIC suites (e.g., Red Book for construction, Yellow Book for plant and design-build).

Tendering & Bid Management

  • Manage the end-to-end tendering process, including preparing RFQs/RFPs, conducting pre-bid meetings, and leading commercial bid evaluations.
  • Prepare precise comparative statements (CS) to drive data-backed awarding decisions.

Risk Mitigation & Compliance

  • Identify potential contractual loopholes and commercial risks early in the project lifecycle and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure all procurement activities comply with GST regulations, local labour laws, and environmental/safety standards.

Claims & Dispute Resolution

  • Manage variations, change orders, and time extension claims.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for dispute resolution, utilizing FIDIC dispute mechanisms and Indian arbitration procedures to protect company interests.

Cost Control & Reporting

  • Track procurement budgets against baseline estimates and provide regular cash-flow and cost-variance reports to senior leadership.

Strategic Procurement & Sourcing

  • Develop and execute comprehensive procurement strategies for critical packages (e.g., Civil, MEP Low Side and High Side).
  • Identify, evaluate, and onboard reliable vendors and subcontractors, maintaining a robust local and national supply chain network.

Vendor Identification & Pre-Qualification

  • Identify potential vendors/subcontractors across categories and carry out technical and commercial pre-qualification prior to bid invitation.
  • Maintain and continuously update an approved vendor list (AVL) based on performance, capacity, and compliance track record.

Educational Qualification

  • Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Additional certification/diploma in Contracts Management, Quantity Surveying, or Supply Chain Management preferred.

Experience

  • 12+ years of relevant experience in contracts and procurement management, preferably within construction, EPC, or infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience handling FIDIC-based contracts and large-value civil/MEP packages.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of the Indian Contract Act, 1872, and FIDIC contract suites (Red Book, Yellow Book).
  • Expertise in tendering, bid evaluation, and vendor management.
  • Sound understanding of GST regulations, labour laws, and safety/environmental compliance.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and commercial acumen.
  • Experience in claims management and dispute resolution / arbitration procedures.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel/Office and procurement/ERP systems.
