Position Summary:

The Material Prep Operator prepares raw materials for fabrication, welding, assembly, and other production departments. Materials include metal, glastic, mica, cement board, and other insulating or non-metallic materials used in induction heating equipment. This position operates saws, sheet metal equipment, press brakes, and other preparation equipment to cut, size, and form materials according to drawings, work orders, and production requirements. The operator ensures prepared material is accurate, properly identified, and ready for the next manufacturing operation.

Job Duties:

• Set up and operate saws, sheet metal cutting equipment, press brakes, and other approved equipment to prepare materials to required dimensions.

• Work with metal plate, sheet, bar stock, tubing, pipe, structural shapes, glastic, mica, cement board, and other materials as assigned.

• Read and interpret work orders, engineering drawings, cut lists, dimensions, and preparation instructions.

• Verify material type, grade, thickness, size, and quantity before beginning work.

• Measure and lay out materials using tape measures, squares, calipers, and other measuring tools.

• Select tooling, blades, cutting methods, and machine settings appropriate for each material, within training and authorization.

• Inspect completed parts for dimensional accuracy, cut quality, bend angles where applicable, and required quantities.

• Follow material-specific handling and cutting instructions, Safety Data Sheets, and required dust collection, ventilation, and personal protective equipment procedures.

What you need to be successful:

• High School Diploma or equivalent

• 2+ years of experience in metal preparation fabrication, machine operation or related.

• 2+ years of experience operating industrial saws, sheet metal equipment or press brakes.

• Experience working with insulating materials such as glastic, mica or cement board is useful.
