Metal Supervisor – Luxury Retail Fit-Out

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Metal Supervisor to lead workshop fabrication for luxury retail and high-end interior fit-out projects. The role covers daily production planning, team supervision, quality and safety, material coordination, and collaboration with project and site teams.

The successful candidate will be able to interpret approved drawings and translate design requirements into precise, well-finished metalwork delivered to schedule. Experience with bespoke retail fixtures and premium finishes is highly valued.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise daily metal workshop operations and allocate work to fabricators, welders, assemblers, and helpers.
• Plan and monitor production against project priorities, approved drawings, delivery dates, and installation schedules.
• Oversee fabrication processes including cutting, forming, welding, assembly, and preparation for finishing.
• Ensure fabricated items match approved drawings, dimensions, specifications, samples, and required quality standards.
• Pay close attention to visible details, clean joints, alignment, consistency, and finish quality expected in luxury retail environments.
• Coordinate with design, project, procurement, joinery, paint, QA/QC, and site teams to resolve technical questions and maintain workflow.
• Review drawings and material requirements; prepare or verify bills of materials and material requisitions.
• Monitor stock, material consumption, tools, and consumables; raise shortages early and help minimize waste.
• Inspect work in progress and completed items, arrange corrections, and confirm readiness for dispatch or installation.
• Support packing, delivery, site installation, snagging, and handover when required.
• Monitor productivity, workmanship, rework, and schedule progress; report issues and delays promptly.
• Enforce workshop safety procedures, housekeeping, equipment care, and proper use of PPE.
• Train and mentor team members, maintain discipline, and identify opportunities to improve productivity and quality.

Requirements

• Diploma in Mechanical, Civil, Fabrication, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
• At least 10 years of experience in metal or steel fabrication, including substantial workshop supervision.
• Experience in luxury retail fit-out, high-end interiors, bespoke retail fixtures, or architectural metalwork is strongly preferred.
• Strong practical knowledge of cutting, welding, forming, assembly, and metal finishing preparation.
• Ability to read and interpret fabrication and technical drawings, dimensions, details, and specifications.
• Ability to prepare or verify bills of materials and raise material requisitions.
• Proven ability to lead workshop teams, allocate manpower, and manage competing project deadlines.
• Good understanding of workshop safety requirements and quality control practices.
• Strong communication, coordination, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Able to work to demanding project schedules and coordinate with site teams when required.

Preferred experience

Experience fabricating bespoke metal elements for luxury boutiques, jewellery stores, flagship stores, counters, display units, feature details, and other premium retail environments.
