We are seeking a Metallurgical Engineer with 3–5 years of relevant experience in the Oil & Gas, drilling, oilfield equipment, or related engineering industry. The role will provide metallurgical and materials engineering support across Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Product Development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with applicable API, ASME, ASTM, ISO, and AMPP/NACE standards, customer specifications, and internal engineering requirements.
  • Develop, review, maintain, and approve metallic material specifications and engineering standards, including requirements for heat treatment, welding, coatings, surface treatment, and manufacturing processes.
  • Review and approve vendor documentation, material certificates, chemical and mechanical test results, heat-treatment records, metallurgical reports, and laboratory reports.
  • Conduct and oversee metallurgical failure investigations and root cause analysis, including metallography, fractography, corrosion assessment, mechanical property evaluation, and material characterization.
  • Lead or support Engineering Evaluation Requests (EERs), technical investigations, material deviations, non-conformances, and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Support design reviews, value engineering, new product development, material selection, risk assessment, qualification testing, and project delivery.
  • Develop material qualification requirements and support qualification of new materials, alternate suppliers, and manufacturing sources.
  • Participate in supplier audits and technical evaluations as a metallurgical/materials SME and resolve material-related supplier and manufacturing issues.
  • Provide technical guidance on material selection, heat treatment, manufacturing processes, welding, coatings, corrosion mitigation, and material qualification for downhole applications.
  • Evaluate field failures, product performance issues, manufacturing problems, and supplier quality concerns and recommend corrective actions.
  • Act as a technical contact for metallurgical matters with customers, suppliers, laboratories, inspection agencies, certification bodies, and industry organizations.
  • Provide technical input to Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Strategic Sourcing, and Product Management teams.
  • Mentor Associate Engineers and Technicians and support knowledge transfer, training, and continuous improvement activities.

Technical Knowledge

  • Strong working knowledge of API 5CT, API 6A, API 7-1, and API 16A.
  • Knowledge of AMPP/NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 and sour-service material requirements.
  • Good knowledge of relevant ASTM, ASME, ISO, API, and AMPP/NACE standards applicable to metallic materials and oilfield equipment.
  • Knowledge of AMPP/NACE corrosion testing methodologies and material qualification requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of oilfield metallic materials, including carbon steels, low-alloy steels, stainless steels, non-magnetic steels, nickel-based alloys, and corrosion-resistant alloys (CRAs).
  • Knowledge of heat treatment, welding, coatings, surface treatment, corrosion mechanisms, manufacturing processes, and mechanical properties.
  • Working knowledge of sour-service material selection and qualification.
  • Knowledge of environmental cracking mechanisms, including SSC, SCC, HISC, hydrogen embrittlement, and hydrogen-assisted cracking.
  • Knowledge of SSRT and related corrosion/environmental cracking evaluation methods.

Qualifications & Experience

  • M.Tech. / Master’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Corrosion & Protection, or a related discipline.
  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience, preferably in Oil & Gas, drilling, downhole tools, OCTG, or oilfield equipment.
  • Practical experience in material qualification, metallurgical failure analysis, root cause investigation, technical evaluation, and supplier/material assessment.
  • Experience with downhole drilling tools, drill pipe, drill collars, BHA components, OCTG, pressure-control equipment, or similar oilfield products is an advantage.
  • Experience working with third-party laboratories, inspection agencies, certification bodies, and material suppliers is desirable.
  • AMPP/NACE certification or relevant training in corrosion, failure analysis, metallography, NDT, welding, or heat treatment is an advantage.

Key Skills

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent technical report-writing and documentation skills.
  • Ability to interpret standards, specifications, drawings, MTCs, test reports, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and lead cross-functional technical activities.
  • Strong communication skills with engineers, technicians, suppliers, laboratories, customers, and manufacturing personnel.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality, safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to manage multiple technical activities and meet project deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel to supplier facilities, laboratories, manufacturing sites, customer locations, and field sites when required.
