What they need

Work With Technology That Measures in Thousandths.

If you like technology, precision, problem-solving, and seeing how things actually work, this isn't your typical inspection job.

Prime Machine is looking for a Metrology Technician to join our team in Salt Lake City. You'll use advanced 3D measurement technology—including laser trackers, scanners, CMMs, and portable measurement arms—to inspect, measure, reverse engineer, and help solve real-world manufacturing challenges.

Our work supports industries where accuracy matters: aerospace, defense, energy, mining, hydro, oil & gas, and heavy industrial manufacturing.

You'll work alongside machinists, engineers, programmers, project managers, and quality professionals while developing highly specialized technical skills that can build a long-term career in advanced manufacturing.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

As a Metrology Technician, you'll get hands-on with some seriously cool technology.

  • Operate Leica and FARO laser trackers, scanners, CMMs, and portable measurement arms
  • Perform high-precision dimensional inspections on machined components and equipment
  • Collect and analyze 3D measurement data
  • Support reverse engineering of existing components
  • Convert measurement data into usable models and information for engineering and manufacturing
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and GD&T
  • Compare manufactured components against customer specifications and engineering requirements
  • Create and document inspection results
  • Support aerospace, defense, and industrial quality requirements
  • Work directly with machinists, engineering, quality, and customers to solve dimensional challenges
  • Assist with troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement
  • Occasionally travel to customer locations to perform field measurements and inspections

This is a role where you won't spend every day doing exactly the same thing. One project may involve inspecting a precision aerospace component; another may have you laser-tracking a massive industrial assembly or reverse engineering a part that no longer has usable drawings.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We're looking for someone who is technically curious, detail-oriented, and takes pride in getting measurements right.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • 3+ years of metrology, dimensional inspection, or reverse engineering experience
  • Experience operating Leica and/or FARO laser trackers
  • Experience with 3D measurement equipment such as laser scanners, CMMs, or portable arms
  • Strong blueprint reading skills
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Experience with CAD and 3D modeling
  • Strong computer and technical software skills
  • Ability to analyze measurement data and identify dimensional discrepancies
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to travel up to approximately 30%

Experience with any of the following is a plus:

SpatialAnalyzer | PolyWorks | Verisurf | SOLIDWORKS | Mastercam | FARO Software | CMM Software

You don't need to check every single box to be worth a conversation. If you have strong metrology experience, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to learn new technology, we want to hear from you.
