Microbiology Lab Technician

We are an ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited cannabis testing laboratory in Las Vegas seeking a highly motivated Microbiology Technician eager to learn and grow in the new, evolving cannabis industry.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for conducting qualitative and quantitative microbial analyses of cannabis products using molecular and cellular methodologies. Among several microorganisms, microbial testing includes Yeast and Mold, Salmonella, E. coli, Enterobacteriaceae and Aerobic bacteria.

• Perform laboratory procedures according to the laboratory’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), under the supervision of the team leader in accordance with ISO 17025 standards and state regulatory requirements
• Prepare samples using sterile techniques to prevent contamination of products, growth media and equipment when performing cell culture procedures
• Accurately weigh samples, pipet, and prepare dilutions to perform sterile microbial plating and Colony Forming Units (CFU) counting following methods described in SOPs
• Handle chemicals and microbial cell cultures safely using appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to prevent cross-contamination and exposure to hazardous material
• Accurately enter data (weight, CFU counts) using Microsoft Excel
• Laboratory maintenance including cleaning, equipment and scheduled environmental microbial testing
• Prepare DNA samples from cannabis products to perform Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) microbial testing

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in microbiology, molecular biology, biology or related field. Candidates with an associate degree and professional experience in a microbiology laboratory will be considered.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

• Familiar with sterile procedures and ability to pipet large and small volumes using specific pipetman
• Ability to learn and adapt quickly with knowledge of the mathematical skills required to perform calculations such as dilutions and buffer preparation
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel
