Microfluidics Engineer

BioTalent is supporting an innovative biotechnology company developing next-generation platforms for automated DNA synthesis and nucleic acid medicine development.

We're seeking a Microfluidics Prototyping & Test Engineer to serve as the hands-on engineering lead in San Francisco, taking concepts from design through prototype build, testing, and technical de-risking. This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of microfluidics, engineering, and advanced biotechnology in a highly collaborative R&D environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build, operate, and troubleshoot microfluidic prototype systems and test rigs
• Evaluate and optimize EWOD/digital microfluidic platforms
• Develop and iterate cartridge designs, fixtures, and fluidic interfaces
• Execute structured experiments and analyse data to support engineering decisions
• Maintain detailed documentation, test records, SOPs, and design files
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and scientific teams across the US and UK

What We're Looking For:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Applied Physics, or related field
• 3+ years of hands-on engineering, microfluidics, or relevant research experience
• Experience with EWOD/digital microfluidics and microfluidic experimental systems
• Strong prototyping, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation skills
• CAD experience and familiarity with fluidic components and system integration

Desirable Experience:

• DNA synthesis, molecular biology, or automated nucleic acid workflows
• Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar tools for automation and data analysis
• Early-stage technology development or fast-paced R&D environments
