What they need
Microschool Learning Assistant — Daybreak Academy
Job Overview
We are seeking a caring, engaging, and reliable Microschool Learning Assistant to support Daybreak Academy, an inclusive microschool operated by The 3 O’Clock Club.
You’ll work with a small group of students with varied learning styles and support needs, including neurodivergent learners. You’ll lead learning activities using individualized lesson plans and materials provided by the program director, help students build independence, and create a welcoming environment where every learner can make meaningful progress.
Formal teaching experience is not required but is preferred. We provide lesson plans, training, and ongoing guidance. We’re looking for someone who connects with children, follows through consistently, and is eager to learn.
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m., with occasional additional paid hours for company events, including evenings or weekends.
Duties
- Deliver individualized lessons and small-group activities using provided plans and materials.
- Support students in reading, writing, math, and other subjects through hands-on learning and guided practice.
- Adjust your approach to students’ learning, communication, and sensory needs with guidance from the program director.
- Build positive relationships with students, including those who need additional time or support to connect.
- Support daily routines, transitions, breaks, and opportunities to practice independence.
- Use respectful, supportive strategies to help students communicate their needs, navigate frustration, and participate in activities.
- Record brief observations about student progress, participation, and areas needing additional support.
- Prepare and organize learning materials and maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming classroom.
- Communicate professionally with families and colleagues, sharing updates as directed.
- Follow program policies, safety procedures, and confidentiality expectations.
- Assist with occasional company events.
- Drive students to park and/or other activities as needed
Requirements
- Experience working with children through childcare, camps, tutoring, classroom support, or similar settings is preferred.
- A warm, engaging personality, patience, and a genuine interest in helping children learn.
- Comfort supporting children on the spectrum and students with varied learning and communication needs; relevant experience is a plus.
- Ability to follow lesson plans, maintain routines, and take initiative within established guidance.
- Willingness to learn and use individualized, neurodiversity-affirming support strategies.
- Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
- Dependability, punctuality, and reliable transportation to work.
- Ability to successfully complete required background checks.
- First Aid/CPR certification is preferred (but will be paid for if it isn't already obtained)
- Availability for the regular schedule and occasional company events (at least one per month)
Compensation
- $17 per hour
- Monthly wellness stipend
- Paid training and ongoing guidance
