Microsoft Cloud Engineer

e&e is seeking a Microsoft Cloud Engineer for a hybrid contract opportunity in Harrisburg, PA!

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Microsoft Cloud Engineer to provide technical leadership in the architecture, design, implementation, administration, and ongoing optimization of enterprise Microsoft 365 cloud services. This role will serve as a senior technical subject matter expert across the Microsoft ecosystem, with a strong emphasis on advanced SharePoint Online engineering, custom solution development, Microsoft Purview, Power Platform, and cloud security.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience designing scalable Microsoft 365 solutions, developing SharePoint integrations and automation, implementing information governance and compliance controls, and supporting emerging Microsoft AI technologies. This position requires a hands-on technical professional who can independently lead complex initiatives, establish architectural standards, and collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to deliver secure, innovative, and efficient cloud solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Microsoft 365 Architecture, Engineering & Administration

• Design, implement, administer, and optimize enterprise Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams, Entra ID, Defender, Purview, and Power Platform.
• Establish architectural standards, governance frameworks, operational procedures, and technical documentation.
• Provide advanced troubleshooting, system administration, and escalation support for complex Microsoft 365 issues.
• Develop and maintain advanced PowerShell scripts to automate administrative tasks and improve operational efficiency.
• Evaluate new Microsoft technologies, platform updates, and emerging capabilities to recommend improvements and enhancements.

SharePoint Online Engineering & Development

• Serve as a technical expert in advanced SharePoint Online architecture, engineering, development, and governance.
• Design and implement modern SharePoint solutions, including site structures, lists, metadata, workflows, integrations, and custom business applications.
• Develop scalable SharePoint solutions that improve collaboration, streamline business processes, and enhance productivity.
• Integrate SharePoint Online with Power Platform, Microsoft 365 services, and approved third-party applications.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate operational requirements into effective technical solutions.
• Establish SharePoint development standards, governance practices, and lifecycle management processes.

Microsoft Purview, Information Governance & Compliance

• Design, implement, and administer Microsoft Purview information protection and governance capabilities.
• Develop data classification strategies, sensitivity labels, retention policies, and information lifecycle management solutions.
• Configure and enhance Data Loss Prevention (DLP) controls across Microsoft 365 environments.
• Partner with security, compliance, legal, and business teams to implement data protection and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Continuously evaluate and improve information governance and security practices.

Power Platform & Microsoft AI Solutions

• Design, develop, and support business applications and workflow automation using Power Apps and Power Automate.
• Integrate Power Platform solutions with SharePoint Online and other Microsoft 365 services.
• Establish Power Platform development standards, governance controls, security practices, and lifecycle management processes.
• Support the evaluation, implementation, and governance of Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio, AI agents, and connectors.
• Identify opportunities to leverage automation and AI technologies to improve business operations and productivity.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and seven or more years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and technical certifications.
• Advanced experience administering, engineering, and supporting enterprise Microsoft 365 cloud environments.
• Extensive hands-on SharePoint Online expertise, including modern site development, advanced lists, metadata, integrations, automation, governance, and custom solution design.
• Strong experience developing solutions using Microsoft Power Platform, particularly Power Automate and Power Apps.
• Experience implementing Microsoft Purview capabilities, including information protection, sensitivity labels, retention policies, data classification, and DLP.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID, authentication technologies, Conditional Access, multifactor authentication (MFA), and cloud security best practices.
• Advanced PowerShell scripting and automation experience.
• Experience designing and implementing secure, scalable, and maintainable Microsoft cloud solutions.
• Ability to independently research, evaluate, troubleshoot, and implement complex technical solutions.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and critical-thinking skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining high-quality results.
• Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership, mentoring, and knowledge sharing across IT teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio, AI agents, and enterprise AI integration.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Defender and advanced Microsoft cloud security capabilities.
• Experience developing reusable SharePoint components, enterprise collaboration solutions, and business process automation frameworks.
• Knowledge of Microsoft 365 governance, compliance, and information lifecycle management best practices.
• Relevant Microsoft certifications in Microsoft 365 administration, SharePoint, Power Platform, Azure, or security.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver enterprise-wide cloud modernization initiatives.
