Mid-Level Backend Developer

About the Role

Appliance.io is looking for a Mid-Level Backend Developer to join our Engineering team in Bandung.

You will build, maintain, and improve backend systems that support real business operations, including orders, payments, inventory, delivery, catalog management, and third-party integrations.

This is a full-time, permanent (PKWTT), on-site position at our Dago office in Bandung. This is not a remote or hybrid role.

What You Will Do

• Develop and maintain backend features using PHP and Laravel.

• Investigate bugs and fix their root causes, not only the symptoms.

• Build and maintain APIs, integrations, and webhook processes.

• Work with MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, and SQL queries.

• Improve database queries, API performance, and existing backend code.

• Write appropriate automated tests for new features and changes.

• Handle backend data requests and production investigations carefully.

• Maintain stable API contracts and coordinate changes with Frontend developers.

• Participate in pull-request and code reviews.

• Create and maintain clear technical documentation.

• Contribute to Go services when required.

• Identify recurring technical or operational problems that can be automated or improved.

What We Are Looking For

• Mid-level backend engineering experience, ideally around 2–5 years.

• Strong practical experience with PHP and Laravel.

• Good understanding of SQL and relational databases.

• Experience building and maintaining REST APIs.

• Experience with third-party APIs, integrations, and webhooks.

• Good understanding of automated testing and debugging.

• Able to investigate problems and identify root causes independently.

• Comfortable working with Git and code-review workflows.

• Able to write clean, maintainable, and reviewable code.

• Able to work independently on well-defined tasks and know when to ask for technical guidance.

Mandatory Requirements

• Fluent spoken and written English.

• Must be able to work fully on-site at our Dago office in Bandung.

• This position is NOT remote or hybrid.

• Must use your own suitable laptop/device for work under our BYOD policy.

• Must be able to communicate clearly with international and English-speaking team members.
