What they need

Company Description

C'E Montessori is an independent Montessori school serving children from infancy through Middle School in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Our mission is to prepare children to transform their world, not by telling them what that world should become, but by cultivating the independence, courage, knowledge, and compassion to shape it themselves.

Our campus spans multiple interconnected buildings intentionally designed for authentic Montessori education. Students learn in beautiful prepared environments with carefully curated Montessori materials, science laboratories, innovation spaces, art studios, a dance studio, outdoor learning environments, gardens, and a dedicated library.

Our Middle School is an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) built upon a Montessori foundation. Rather than separating disciplines into isolated subjects, we emphasize interdisciplinary inquiry, authentic projects, field studies throughout New York City, service learning, and meaningful real-world applications.

One of the defining features of our program is our exceptionally low student-to-teacher ratio. Teachers work with approximately one adult for every five students (5:1), allowing educators to truly know each child, personalize instruction, and build strong relationships with families.

We believe exceptional schools are built by exceptional educators. Teachers at C'E are trusted as professionals, encouraged to innovate, supported through meaningful professional development, and given the autonomy to continually refine their practice within a collaborative faculty.

Position Overview

C'E Montessori is seeking a passionate, intellectually curious, and collaborative Middle School Math & Science Teacher to join our International Baccalaureate MYP faculty.

This position serves students ages 11–14 in a mixed-age Montessori environment while delivering the Mathematics and Sciences components of the IB Middle Years Programme.

Our ideal candidate believes that adolescents learn best through investigation, experimentation, discussion, collaboration, and authentic problem solving—not simply lectures and worksheets.

You'll have the opportunity to design interdisciplinary units, connect mathematics and science to current events and community issues, guide independent research projects, supervise laboratory investigations, and regularly take learning beyond the classroom into New York City.

What Makes This Position Different

  • Teach in an IB Middle Years Programme integrated with authentic Montessori philosophy.
  • Enjoy an exceptional 5:1 student-to-teacher ratio, allowing for highly individualized instruction.
  • Collaborate closely with humanities, arts, language, and design teachers on interdisciplinary projects.
  • Work in beautiful classrooms with dedicated science, innovation, and maker spaces.
  • Take advantage of New York City as an extension of your classroom through museums, universities, laboratories, engineering firms, parks, and cultural institutions.
  • Teach students who have spent years developing independence, executive functioning, and intrinsic motivation through Montessori education.

Responsibilities

  • Teach engaging middle school Mathematics and Science courses aligned with the IB MYP framework.
  • Design inquiry-driven units that encourage students to ask questions, investigate, experiment, and reflect.
  • Integrate Montessori principles of independence, choice, hands-on learning, and self-direction into daily instruction.
  • Create interdisciplinary learning experiences connecting mathematics, science, technology, engineering, humanities, and the arts.
  • Plan and supervise laboratory investigations and authentic scientific inquiry.
  • Differentiate instruction for diverse learners while maintaining high academic expectations.
  • Assess student learning using IB MYP assessment criteria and provide meaningful narrative feedback.
  • Serve as an advisor and mentor to middle school students, supporting both academic and personal growth.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop curriculum, exhibitions, field studies, and service-learning experiences.
  • Maintain strong partnerships with families through thoughtful communication and conferences.
  • Participate actively in faculty collaboration, professional development, and school events.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Science, Education, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching Mathematics and/or Science to middle school students.
  • Passion for inquiry-based, student-centered education.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organizational and classroom leadership abilities.
  • Commitment to collaboration and continuous professional growth.

Preferred

  • Experience teaching in an International Baccalaureate (IB MYP or DP) school.
  • Montessori training or experience in a Montessori environment (or enthusiasm to learn).
  • Experience with project-based learning, interdisciplinary curriculum, or inquiry-based instruction.
  • Experience supervising laboratory investigations and hands-on science learning.
  • Master's degree in Education or a related field.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for an educator who sees mathematics as a language for understanding the world and science as a way of asking better questions.

The ideal teacher enjoys designing memorable learning experiences, values student voice, believes adolescents deserve both freedom and responsibility, and is excited by the opportunity to help build an innovative Montessori-IB middle school program in Brooklyn.

If you thrive in a collaborative environment where creativity is encouraged, relationships matter, and every student is known personally, we'd love to meet you.

Benefits

  • Competitive independent school salary
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Retirement plan
  • Professional development, including Montessori and IB training opportunities
  • Small class sizes and a 5:1 student-to-teacher ratio
  • Beautiful purpose-built campus in Williamsburg, Brooklyn
  • Collaborative, mission-driven faculty
  • Significant autonomy in curriculum design and instructional practice
