Middle School Science and Lab Technician

Whitby School is looking for a part-time Science Teacher & Laboratory Technician to join our Middle School team. This is a unique opportunity to combine teaching two sections of Grade 5 Science with hands-on laboratory work in a well-supported, inquiry-driven program. You’ll help students learn by doing while also helping shape the lab experiences that make science come alive—working collaboratively with teachers, preparing labs, and ensuring students have the equipment and environment they need to explore, experiment, and discover. With a supportive community, an IB MYP framework, and 25–30 hours per week with benefits, this role offers meaningful work with the flexibility of a part-time schedule.

Summary of Position:

The goal of this position is to support inquiry-based learning in laboratory and classroom settings, ensure that all laboratory activities are conducted safely, and provide instruction in Grade 5 Science within the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) framework. The position is responsible for teaching two sections of Grade 5 Science, including developing and implementing inquiry-based learning experiences aligned with the MYP framework.

In addition, the position supports science teachers and students to ensure that they:

• Facilitate the set up of lab equipment for the Science department
• Conduct routine safety checks on laboratory equipment
• Accurately observe, collect, and record the results of student work
• Support other science teachers and classes as schedule permits

Qualifications:

• Earned undergraduate or associate degree in science, education, or a related field
• Experience working with students in a science classroom or laboratory setting
• Knowledge of laboratory procedures, equipment, and safety practices
• Knowledge and experience utilizing OSHA standards and other best-practice resources related to laboratory setup and safety
• Ability to work effectively in a supportive and collaborative environment
• Experience with International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) – preferred
• Satisfactory completion of a pre-employment background check
