What they need

About Us

New Zealand is renowned across the globe as one of the purest and natural places on Earth – It’s clean, green, and simply beautiful, and King Country is possibly the jewel in that crown.  A fertile and naturally abundant land of rolling hills, ambling rivers and lush vegetation, perfect for cultivation of quality crops and livestock.  Almost a quarter of the local community is directly involved in Agriculture of some kind, including significant free range Sheep and Beef farms.

King Country Pet Food is based near Taumarunui at the centre of this historic region, set near the banks of the beautiful Whanganui river.  Our core values include having a strong, respectful connection to the local community, and we take pride in calling King Country our home.

As an addition to New Zealand’s pet foods’ growing popularity amongst pet lovers the world over, we have a state-of-the-art plant and facilities, sourcing the finest ingredients to produce products to rival the best in the world.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Mill / Grain Hall Supervisor to join our team at King Country Pet Food.

Reporting to the Shift Manager, this is a hands-on supervisory role supporting day-to-day production across milling, grain handling, raw material preparation, batching, and pre-extrusion activities. You will be part of a strong and growing team focused on producing consistent, high-quality products in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Previous hands-on manufacturing or supervisory experience is preferred, ideally in food production, milling, grain handling, pet food, or a similar processing environment. Full training and support will be provided.

Full-time position, 40-hour week, with some occasional overtime and flexibility required, including around shift rostering in the future.

Key Role Responsibilities

  • Supervising milling, grain hall, batching, weighing, raw material handling, storage, and transfer processes.
  • Ensuring production readiness before each run, including materials, equipment, staffing, checks, and documentation.
  • Supporting safe and accurate ingredient dosing, grind size control, and compliance with formulation requirements.
  • Leading, coaching, and supporting Mill Process Operators in day-to-day tasks.
  • Maintaining strong health and safety standards, including forklift safety, PPE, hazard reporting, toolbox talks, and safe work practices.
  • Ensuring hygiene, cleaning, allergen, traceability, quality, and food safety requirements are followed.
  • Supporting continuous improvement, maintenance requests, downtime reduction, and operational problem solving.
  • Completing and checking required records, including production, food safety, training, compliance, and health and safety documentation.

About You

  • You have previous hands-on manufacturing experience, ideally in food production, milling, grain handling, pet food, meat, or a similar processing environment.
  • You are confident supervising people and can provide clear direction, feedback, and support.
  • You understand the importance of health and safety, hygiene, quality, traceability, and doing the job right.
  • You are organised, reliable, practical, and calm under pressure.
  • You are comfortable using systems and basic Microsoft Office tools, including Outlook, Teams, Excel, and Word.
  • You are a strong communicator who can work well with operators, managers, and support teams.
  • You are proactive, solutions focused, and willing to be hands-on when needed.

What We Offer

  • A hands-on supervisory role within a growing manufacturing operation.
  • The opportunity to help shape and improve systems, processes, and team capability as production continues to expand.
