Mill Manager

About the role

Bark Wholesalers is seeking an experienced Mill Manager to join our team in Takanini, Auckland. This is a full-time position that plays a pivotal role in our operations, overseeing the efficient management and production of our milling facilities with a particular focus of custom-blend soil mixes. As Mill Manager, you will be responsible for leading a dedicated team, optimising production processes, ensuring quality standards are met, and driving operational excellence across all milling activities. This role is critical to our business success and directly impacts our ability to deliver high-quality products to our customers.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily mill operations to ensure efficient production schedules and targets are consistently met

• Manage and supervise mill staff, providing leadership, training, and performance management to maintain a motivated and skilled workforce

• Implement and maintain quality control procedures to ensure all products meet company standards and customer requirements

• Work with clients and key suppliers to create custom solutions for clients' horticulture growing needs as required

• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies, maintaining a safe working environment for all staff

• Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost efficiencies within mill operations

• Report on production metrics, performance data, and operational challenges to senior management

• Liaise with other departments to ensure seamless coordination of supply chain and production activities

• Manage budgets and control operational costs within assigned parameters

What we're looking for

• Proven experience as a Mill Manager or similar production management role within a horticultural manufacturing environment

• Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff

• Knowledge of milling operations, equipment, and production processes; previous experience operating front end loaders

• Experience with quality control and compliance standards relevant to manufacturing

• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure

• Strong organisational and time management abilities

• A sound understanding of health and safety regulations and commitment to maintaining workplace safety

• Experience with budget management and cost control

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams

• First Aid, WTR, and Forklift endorsement would be benefical
