Job Description:

The Mine Operations Supervisor will be reporting to the Mine Operations Superintendent, and the Mine Operations Supervisor works a rotating schedule. The Mine Operations Supervisor provides guidance and leadership for all mining-related activities during their regularly scheduled shift.  Responsible for the direct supervision of up to approximately 40 equipment operators.  Successful candidates will utilize available resources to set operating priorities to achieve daily goals.

Day to Day:

The key responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

• Create and maintain a strong safety culture. Facilitate team involvement in safety programs.
• Promote and consistently enforce safety standards to deliver safe production.
• Conduct safety meetings, and safety inspections.  Demonstrate a strong personal commitment to safety and the environment.
• Seeking opportunities to continuously improve both the crew and mining operation.
• Support and implement department and site Operational Excellence initiatives.
• Provide coaching and leadership to the operational crew.
• Work closely with other departments to deliver short-range mine plan.
• Clearly communicate the daily objectives and priorities to mine operators.
• Monitor activities of mine operations to ensure compliance with the mine plan.
• Identify training needs and schedule proper training to ensure that safety and production goals are met.
• Conduct in incident investigations in a thorough and timely manner.
• Complete performance evaluations and recommend promotions, as appropriate.
• Administer and communicate company policies and operating procedures to promote an effective team.
• Work closely with all mine operations personnel to develop cost-efficient mining practices.
• Maintain accurate production records and employee training files.
• Responsible and accountable for the performance, and compliance of mine site safety and environmental policies and procedures for all personnel and vendors.
• Participating in Planned General Inspections.
• Provide safety and environmental leadership by always setting a good example.
• This role requires frequent interaction with department employees, supervision, management and vendors on a regular basis to provide assistance, service and support.
• Ability to build trust and develop great working relationships with site personnel and regulatory agencies.
• Ability to provide strong leadership and act as an effective change agent.
• Ability to interact with all departments or groups as needed, for problem resolution.

Is This You??

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in mine operations in an open pit mine setting, 7+ preferred.
• Prior supervisory or lead person experience required.
• Demonstrated leadership and teambuilding skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively using all standard forms of business communication.
• Excellent organizational and problem solving skills.
• Ability to plan and direct work of others.
• Instructs in proper use of equipment.
• Must be able to multi-task and change priorities quickly.
• Must be able to handle an emergency in an effective manner.
• A strong safety background is required.
• Proven safety and environmental performance.

Working Conditions & Environment:

• This is an in-person, site-based position located at altitudes above 9,500 feet. Candidates must be able to work in a high-altitude environment and in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to perform fieldwork, including walking on uneven terrain and climbing stairs.
• Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including steel-toe boots, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
• Valid driver’s license required.
