Job Overview

The Mining Equipment Maintenance Helper supports the Maintenance Supervisor with the daily maintenance and repair of Black Rock's crushing, screening, and conveying equipment. This is a hands-on position focused primarily on jaw crushers, cone crushers, screens, conveyors, feeders, and related fixed mining equipment.

The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, dependable, willing to learn, and comfortable assisting with repairs, preventive maintenance, component replacement, welding, and plant breakdowns. This position will work alongside experienced maintenance personnel while developing the skills necessary to perform increasingly complex repairs independently.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with maintenance and repairs on jaw crushers, cone crushers, screens, conveyors, feeders, and related crushing equipment.
• Assist with replacing belts, bearings, rollers, idlers, pulleys, shafts, motors, gearboxes, couplings, and other mechanical components.
• Assist with crusher repairs, including replacing liners, wear plates, and other wear components.
• Maintain conveyor systems, including belt tracking, tensioning, splicing, rollers, skirting, and pulleys.
• Assist with replacing and repairing screen media, chutes, guards, and material-handling components.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance, including greasing, lubrication, inspections, adjustments, and replacement of worn components.
• Assist the Maintenance Supervisor with troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues.
• Assist with welding, cutting, fabrication, equipment rebuilds, and plant modifications.
• Respond to plant breakdowns and assist with repairs to minimize production downtime.
• Maintain tools, parts, and maintenance work areas in a clean and organized condition.
• Follow Lock Out/Tag Out, blocking procedures, MSHA requirements, and all Black Rock safety policies during maintenance and repairs.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical aptitude and an interest in crusher and aggregate plant maintenance.
• Previous experience with crushing, screening, conveying, mining, or industrial equipment preferred.
• Familiarity with belts, bearings, rollers, pulleys, gearboxes, and other mechanical components preferred.
• Basic welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
• Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
• Ability to follow instructions and work closely with experienced maintenance personnel.
• Willingness to learn troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance techniques.
• Dependable, safety-minded, and willing to assist with breakdowns and changing maintenance priorities.
• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while knowing when to ask for assistance.
• Previous MSHA experience preferred, but training will be provided.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to regularly stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, crawl, and work in various positions while performing repairs and maintenance.
• Ability to work at heights and in confined or restricted areas when required.
• Ability to work outdoors in heat, cold, wind, dust, and other typical quarry conditions.
• Ability to work safely around loud equipment and active crushing operations.
• Ability to wear and use required PPE throughout the workday.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time position.

• Monday through Friday
• Typical hours are 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with flexibility based on operational needs
• Overtime and weekends as needed
