TCU Wesley seeks a Ministry Associate to serve TCU students as a day-to-day pastoral and programming presence who helps students grow in faith and leadership. This work is well-suited to an individual discerning vocational ministry, a student looking for practical ministry experience, or someone with a call to ministry beyond the local church.
Reports to: Executive Director
Hours: An average of 20 hours per week, including Wednesday evenings, plus occasional weekend responsibilities, annual retreats and mission trips.
Pay: $30,000-$40,000 annually
Benefits: While no health benefits are offered with this position, there is flexibility in the schedule to set your own hours outside of shared events. While there are more time intensive weeks around back-to-school and graduation, there are also less time intensive blocks such as summer and holidays (entire week of Thanksgiving, two weeks at Christmas and New Year).
Responsibilities:
Meet one-on-one with students for spiritual care, mentoring, and discipleship to equip them for ministry and leadership
Plan and help lead Wednesday night worship, including preparation and coordination of student leaders and volunteers as well as opportunities for monthly preaching
Lead or co-lead a weekly Bible study
Plan and run special events, retreats, and mission trips, including logistics and travel
Attend staff/planning meetings and follow through on assigned tasks
Follow safe-ministry and student-care policies, and escalate serious concerns to the Executive Director promptly
Qualifications:
Active Christian faith and comfort working in the United Methodist tradition as well as ability to interact with a diverse student body and differing religious perspectives
Experience with college-age students, whether through campus ministry, youth ministry, or student leadership
Ability to teach, facilitate discussion, and lead worship
Willingness to complete a background check and safe-ministry training
Preferred: seminary or ministry coursework, Wesley Foundation background, event or trip planning experience, United Methodist
Requirements:
Ability to adapt to a flexible work schedule including some evening and weekend duties.
Candidates must NOT be a TCU graduate within the last 2 years to avoid dual-relationship issues.
To remain in this position longer than 2 years, candidates must complete or be enrolled to complete a masters level education, preferably in a ministry related field.
