Job Overview

Capital City & HR Refuse is seeking a dependable, experienced, and motivated Heavy-Duty Mechanic to join our maintenance team.

This position is responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing a fleet of refuse trucks and heavy-duty equipment. Responsibilities range from routine preventative maintenance and brake repairs to advanced mechanical troubleshooting and major engine repairs.The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical knowledge, experience working with diesel-powered commercial vehicles, and the ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical issues efficiently.We are looking for a safety-conscious professional who takes pride in their workmanship and understands the importance of maintaining a safe, reliable, and operational fleet.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on refuse trucks and heavy-duty equipment.
• Diagnose and repair diesel engines, including major engine components and overhauls when necessary.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair air brake systems, suspension components, and steering systems.
• Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, including pumps, hoses, cylinders, and related components.
• Troubleshoot electrical systems, wiring, sensors, and vehicle components.
• Diagnose and repair transmissions, drivetrains, and related mechanical systems.
• Utilize diagnostic equipment and mechanical tools to identify and resolve vehicle issues.
• Perform routine maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication services.
• Identify potential mechanical concerns and recommend preventative repairs to minimize vehicle downtime.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, and completed repairs.
• Follow established safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
• Work independently and collaboratively with maintenance personnel to ensure fleet reliability.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Previous experience in diesel mechanics, heavy-duty truck repair, or commercial fleet maintenance preferred.
• Strong mechanical knowledge and troubleshooting abilities.
• Experience diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, brake systems, and hydraulic equipment.
• Familiarity with electrical systems and computerized diagnostic equipment preferred.
• Ability to perform both routine maintenance and major mechanical repairs.
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and mechanical repair equipment.
• Ability to safely lift and handle heavy vehicle components.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
• Dependable, organized, and capable of working independently.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Valid driver's license preferred.
• Experience working with refuse trucks or similar heavy-duty equipment is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits

Hourly Pay: 33.00–40.00

Starting wage will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated mechanical abilities.
