Model-Based Definition (MBD) Engineer - CAD/PLM + SAP - Remote

We're hiring on behalf of a client that manufactures complex engineered hardware for government and defense programs.

About the role

Join a digital engineering team whose goal is to make the 3D model, not the drawing, the single source of truth for design, manufacturing, inspection and quality. You'll set how tolerances, product and manufacturing information (PMI) and material test data move through CAD, PLM, MES and ERP systems, so data flows between teams without being retyped. This is a senior individual-contributor role. You'll be the go-to technical expert across engineering, manufacturing and quality.

What you'll do

• Write and maintain the procedures and work instructions for delivering design intent and material test data as model-based artifacts
• Build traceability from design requirements to characteristics in the technical data package, with test results flowing back into PLM/MES automatically
• Define interchange formats (STEP AP242, QIF, JT) and the model completeness each program needs
• Work with design, materials and test engineering on capturing mechanical, corrosion and weld qualification data against the model
• Find gaps in the CAD, PLM, MES and ERP tools and write the requirements to fix them
• Train and coach engineers, and represent the discipline in design reviews, audits and supplier assessments

What you bring

• An engineering degree plus 8+ years in design, manufacturing, materials or test engineering (6+ with an advanced degree, or 12+ years of directly relevant experience instead of a degree)
• Hands-on CAD/PLM experience: NX, Creo, CATIA, Teamcenter, Windchill, 3DEXPERIENCE or similar
• A strong working knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
• Experience with MBD formats (STEP AP242, QIF, JT)
• A track record of writing standard work (procedures, work instructions, method sheets)
• The ability to lead across teams without direct reports

Strong plus

• SAP S/4HANA or another ERP connected to engineering and production data
• MES experience (Solumina/iBase-t, Siemens Opcenter)
• MIL-STD-31000, or aerospace or defense manufacturing background
• CAD/PLM administration at production scale
• Palantir Foundry, Databricks or Snowflake for manufacturing data
• Digital twin, physics-based modeling or machine learning for process data

Pay: $70,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
