Molecular Technologist I

Position Summary

The Molecular Technologist I is an entry-level position responsible for performing routine molecular diagnostic testing in compliance with laboratory procedures, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. This role focuses on supporting daily laboratory operations, including specimen preparation, nucleic acid extraction, PCR-based testing, and result reporting, under direct supervision.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform specimen preparation, and molecular testing procedures (e.g., nucleic acid extraction, PCR, RT-PCR).
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot molecular diagnostic instruments and laboratory equipment.
• Follow established SOPs, CLIA, CAP, and other regulatory requirements to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.
• Participate in routine quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) processes.
• Accurately document all laboratory activities and test results.
• Assist with inventory management of reagents, consumables, and supplies.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Collaborate with colleagues and supervisors to meet turnaround times and performance standards.
• Participate in training and continuing education to develop technical expertise.

Qualifications

Education & Certification

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, or related life sciences required.
• Eligibility for certification through ASCP or equivalent is a plus.

Experience & Skills

• 0–2 years of relevant laboratory experience
• Basic knowledge of molecular biology techniques, including PCR and nucleic acid handling.
• Familiarity with CLIA and CAP regulations desirable.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions precisely.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Work Environment

• Clinical laboratory setting with exposure to biological samples and laboratory reagents.
• Must be able to stand, sit, bend, and lift up to 25 lbs as part of daily duties.
• Standard full-time schedule with potential evening or weekend shifts depending on operational needs.
