What they need

Your influence can extend beyond your classroom.

You might help a new Guide find their confidence. Work with an experienced Guide to rethink a classroom challenge. Support a family through a difficult conversation. Help create an event that brings the Primary community together. Or notice an opportunity to improve something that has been done the same way for years.

But at the heart of it all, you still love being in the classroom. Watching a child make a discovery, find their independence, or master something they've been working toward. Those moments are what drew you to Montessori, and they continue to inspire you.

At School in the Hills, our Primary Program Coordinators bring these two passions together. They are experienced Montessori Guides who continue to work directly with children while helping shape the direction, quality, and culture of the larger Primary program.

We are looking for an experienced, Montessori credentialed Primary Guide who knows the 3–6 child, understands the Montessori curriculum deeply, and is ready to bring that experience to a broader leadership role.

Someone who takes ownership beyond their own classroom. Who notices what needs attention, brings ideas to the table, and helps fellow Guides grow in confidence and capability.

The Focus

Lead a Montessori classroom with intention and purpose

  • Guide children ages 3–6 through the Montessori Primary curriculum, creating a thoughtfully prepared environment that supports independence, concentration, and a love of learning.
  • Observe carefully, follow each child's development, and deliver purposeful lessons that respond to individual needs and interests.
  • Model strong classroom leadership, respectful interactions, and authentic Montessori practice.
  • Build meaningful relationships with children and families, and support the full three-year Primary experience.

Lead and mentor Guides

  • Coach Primary Lead and Assistant Guides, helping them strengthen their practice and grow as educators.
  • Observe classrooms, recognize strengths, identify areas for improvement, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Support Guides through classroom challenges, difficult parent conversations, and sensitive situations, including participating in conferences when needed.
  • Uphold high standards for Montessori practice while respecting each Guide's individuality and approach.
  • Encourage initiative, professional growth, and accountability across the Primary team.

Bring the Primary community together

  • Foster collaboration among Primary Guides, encouraging the exchange of ideas, resources, and experiences.
  • Develop meaningful program-wide events, parent education opportunities, and traditions that strengthen connections between families, Guides, and classrooms.
  • Anticipate what's coming next, helping Guides plan thoughtfully, prepare well in advance, and keep the Primary program running smoothly.
  • Work with school leadership to identify opportunities, address challenges, and continually strengthen the Primary program.

What you bring

  • A MACTE accredited Montessori Primary (3–6) certification
  • Significant experience as a Montessori Primary Lead Guide, with a deep understanding of Montessori philosophy, curriculum, and child development
  • A genuine interest in coaching and developing other educators
  • Strong classroom leadership and the ability to model excellent Montessori practice
  • Sound judgment, initiative, and the confidence to make decisions and address challenges
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly when navigating sensitive conversations with parents or colleagues
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to plan ahead and follow through
  • The initiative and creativity to bring people together, develop meaningful experiences, and turn good ideas into action

A bachelor's degree is required. Previous experience mentoring Guides or leading a Montessori program is an advantage.
