Moodle / LMS Technical Lead

Experience: 6+ years of relevant experience, including 2+ years in a technical lead capacity.

Position Summary

We are looking for an experienced Moodle / LMS Technical Lead to lead the architecture, development, integration, and lifecycle management of a large-scale learning management platform.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role combining Moodle platform engineering, LMS architecture, software development, integrations, and team leadership .

Experience delivering LMS solutions within academic, education, training, or large-scale learning environments is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead Moodle/LMS architecture, configuration, customization, and implementation .
• Lead custom Moodle plugin and module development .
• Provide technical leadership, code reviews, mentoring, and technical support to software engineers.
• Design and manage integrations with identity platforms, learning systems, content platforms, and enterprise applications .
• Implement and support learning standards including LTI, SCORM, and xAPI .
• Support learning workflows including course management, enrollment, assessments, grading, learning records, and reporting .
• Manage LMS environments, CI/CD pipelines, releases, patches, and version upgrades .
• Ensure platform performance, scalability, availability, security, caching, and capacity planning .
• Define LMS technical standards, development practices, code-review processes, and governance.
• Troubleshoot complex L3 platform and integration issues and coordinate patches and technical fixes.
• Work closely with learning, functional, business, and technical stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable LMS solutions.
• Manage technical priorities, dependencies, risks, and delivery activities.
• Mentor engineering team members and promote strong development, quality, and engineering practices.

Technical Requirements

Strong hands-on knowledge and experience in:

• Moodle core and plugin architecture
• PHP development
• MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MariaDB
• LTI, SCORM, and xAPI
• SAML, OAuth, LDAP, and SSO
• Linux-based hosting environments
• APIs and enterprise system integrations
• LMS integration patterns and data synchronization
• CI/CD and release management
• Moodle caching and performance tuning
• Scalability, availability, and capacity planning
• Application security and access controls

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology , or a related field.
• Typically 6+ years of experience in Moodle/LMS platform engineering, development, or implementation .
• Minimum 2+ years in a Technical Lead, Lead Engineer, or similar technical leadership role .
• Strong hands-on experience with Moodle development, customization, plugins, integrations, and upgrades .
• Experience implementing or supporting LMS solutions within education, academic, training, or complex learning environments .
• Good understanding of course structures, enrollment, assessments, grading, learning content, and reporting workflows .
• Experience with LMS integration standards including LTI, SCORM, and xAPI .
• Experience integrating LMS platforms with identity, content, data, and enterprise systems .
• Experience with multi-organization, multi-site, or complex Moodle/LMS deployments .
• Strong programming, debugging, and technical problem-solving skills.
• Understanding of platform governance, security, access control, and data-isolation requirements.
• Previous experience mentoring or technically leading software engineering teams.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills. Preferred Qualifications
• Advanced degree in a relevant technical field.
• Relevant Moodle, LMS, Linux, cloud, or software engineering certifications .
• Experience delivering large-scale learning platforms or enterprise applications.
• Previous experience supporting academic or education-focused learning environments is an advantage.
