This position will be staffed through Phoenix Collateral Advisors, LLC, as a full-time role dedicated to NexBank (www.nexbank.com). The Escalation Lead serves as a senior operational resource with demonstrated mortgage compliance expertise, responsible for independently reviewing, assessing, and resolving escalated compliance-related issues that impact loan processing, closing, and funding. The role also provides functional leadership for complex closing-related escalations by coordinating resolution efforts across operations, compliance, sales, and closing stakeholders, without direct people management responsibilities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
● Serve as a primary escalation point for complex mortgage compliance issues impacting loan approval, closing, funding, or post-closing review.
● Independently review escalated compliance findings, conditions, and exceptions to determine appropriate resolution paths
● Apply working knowledge of federal and state mortgage regulations, investor guidelines, and internal policies when assessing escalated issues
● Manage or oversee MERS (Mortgage Electronic Registration System) registration, assignment, and transfer activity to ensure accurate lien position and investor reporting
● Lead resolution of compliance-driven closing delays by coordinating across underwriting, compliance, closing, post-closing, and sales partners
● Provide functional leadership for complex closing escalations, guiding next steps and resolution strategy without direct staff supervision
● Escalate only novel, high-risk, or policy-level issues to NexBank leadership with clear analysis and recommended options
● Track escalated items using structured logs or reporting tools to ensure accountability
● Provide regular status updates on open escalations, risks, and resolution progress
● Identify trends in compliance findings or recurring closing issues and contribute to remediation planning and process improvement efforts
● Ensure all activities align with NexBank policies, regulatory requirements, and investor guidelines
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:
● Demonstrated mortgage compliance experience with the ability to independently assess regulatory, investor, and policy-related issues
● Strong understanding of federal and state mortgage regulations (e.g., RESPA, TILA/TRID, HMDA, ECOA) and investor guidelines (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Ginnie Mae) and how they impact loan processing, closing, and funding
● Experience resolving compliance-driven conditions, exceptions, or audit findings
● Ability to apply sound judgment to escalated compliance and closing issues and recommend appropriate resolution strategies
● Comfort serving as an escalation lead and functional authority for complex issues across compliance and closing workflows
● Working knowledge of MERS processes, including registration, MIN transfers, and MOM (MERS as Original Mortgagee) documentation
● CRCM (Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager) or similar compliance certification preferred
● Strong written and verbal communication skills
● Collaborative, solution-oriented approach with persistence and follow-through
● Proficiency in Excel or similar tools for tracking and reporting
Education & Experience:
● Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required
● 5+ years of experience in mortgage compliance, quality control, due diligence, or a related mortgage operations role with significant compliance exposure
● MERS experience strongly preferred
● Experience supporting or partnering closely with closing teams and understanding closing workflows and funding requirements
● Prior experience handling escalations, exceptions, or high-risk loan issues required
Physical & Remote Work Requirements:
● Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
● Must be available and responsive via email, phone, and messaging
● Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
● Reliable, high-speed internet connection
● Reliable mobile device and service

Details:
