Mortgage Underwriter

Job Overview
UnionLink Mortgage (ULM) is a fast-growing mortgage lender backed by WFCU, focused on delivering a seamless lending experience to mortgage brokers through technology and sharp execution. We’re looking for a Senior Underwriter analyzes and verifies loan applications, evaluates risk and makes loan eligibility decisions. This individual ensures all documentation is compliant with relevant regulations.

Location: ON, AB, BC – Hybrid or Remote

Responsibilities

• Review and underwrite customer loans within prescribed authority level, escalating unusual or complex cases to leadership where appropriate
• Review due diligence documents submitted to validate the borrower’s willingness and ability to repay the loan
• Analyze loan risk and request additional information as necessary
• Make loan eligibility decisions and approve or reject applications
• Review and specify loan conditions as necessary
• Ensure deals are underwritten and adhere to internal policy, procedures, guidelines, insurer programs and regulatory requirements
• Document and efficiently communicate reasons for the approval/rejection of loans
• Review appraisal and/or site inspection reports
• Manage the relationship with submitting agent/broker source
• Set the pricing and manage the profitability of each transaction
• Identify and assess AML and fraud risks
• Manage pipeline and ensure daily production goals are met
• Mentor team members and share best practices
• Handle complex deals and support team with escalated issues

​Qualifications

• 5 years of experience underwriting in residential originations
• Most recent role being a senior underwriter, or an underwriter with higher authority level and scope of work
• Clear, confident communication skills — written and verbal
