Motor Equipment Operator

The Town of Kingsbury is seeking candidates for a full-time Motor Equipment Operator. Must be available 24/7 to respond to emergency calls and live within a 20-minute drive of Town Highway Garage in Hudson Falls, NY. Excellent benefits including full medical coverage, NYS Retirement, and generous allotment of paid time off. Schedule is 8 hours a day Monday - Friday during winter season and 10 hours a day Monday - Thursday thereafter. Additional hours as necessary. The starting salary is $23.55 per hour without a CDL or $24.05 with a CDL.

Required Skills

· Knowledge of the operation of trucks, tractors and other types of automotive equipment

· Ability to perform minor automotive repairs

· Manual dexterity

· Mechanical aptitude

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (includes but not limited to):

· Operates equipment in connection with the removal of snow and in the transportation of stone, gravel and other road and bridge construction materials

· Operates and transports a variety of equipment and tools associated with road and bridge construction and maintenance

· Performs manual tasks such as loading and unloading trucks, digging ditches, cutting trees and brush, cleaning culverts, placing traffic signs, shoveling snow, painting and road/bridge maintenance work

· Services assigned vehicle and maintains it in clean condition

· Clean garage equipment storage areas, restrooms, and highway office building

· Perform certain building maintenance activities

· Transport parts and materials for garage and office operations

Qualifications

Possession of a valid New York State CDL is required within 6 months of hire date. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one year of experience in construction technology or highway maintenance, or a closely related field. Members of the bargaining unit are eligible to receive CDL training at no cost to the employee.
