- Master’s degree in Engineering or Transportation Planning.
- Experience working with Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) systems or similar urban transit networks.
- Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software and transit simulation tools.
- Knowledge of project management methodologies and experience leading engineering projects.
- Certification in safety management or transit operations (e.g., Certified Transit Safety and Security Officer).
Responsibilities:
- Design, test, and maintain mechanical and electrical components of transit vehicles and infrastructure.
- Conduct regular inspections and diagnostics to identify and resolve system malfunctions or inefficiencies.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and safety teams to develop and implement engineering solutions.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local transportation regulations and safety standards.

- Participate in emergency response and troubleshooting to minimize service interruptions.
- Support capital projects by providing engineering expertise during planning, procurement, and construction phases.
Skills:
The MTA Engineer utilizes technical skills daily to analyze complex transit systems and develop practical engineering solutions that enhance system reliability and safety. Strong problem-solving abilities enable the engineer to diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues efficiently, minimizing downtime. Communication skills are essential for collaborating with cross-functional teams and conveying technical information clearly to stakeholders. Proficiency in software tools such as CAD and simulation programs supports the design and testing of transit components.
