Mud Man / STP Operator

Short Description

We are looking for an experienced Mud Man to join our micro tunnelling team. In this role, you will be responsible for the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the slurry circulation and separation system, ensuring efficient excavation support and continuous tunnelling operations.

Function Description

• Operate and monitor the slurry circuit supporting AVN 800 microtunnelling operations, including pumps, pipelines, valves, and slurry treatment equipment.
• Maintain the correct slurry properties, including density, viscosity, and flow rates, in accordance with project requirements.
• Monitor and adjust bentonite and polymer mixing systems.
• Assist in the operation of the slurry separation plant, including shakers, cyclones, centrifuges, and dewatering equipment.
• Identify and troubleshoot issues affecting slurry circulation, separation efficiency, or spoil removal.
• Carry out routine inspections, cleaning, and basic maintenance of slurry equipment and pipelines.
• Assist with installation, dismantling, and modification of slurry pipelines and associated equipment.

Requirements To be considered for this position, candidates should have:

• Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar role within micro tunnelling, pipe jacking, HDD, or slurry tunnelling operations.
• Experience operating slurry treatment plants and bentonite mixing systems.
• Good understanding of slurry properties, spoil management, and separation processes.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic maintenance on pumps, hoses, valves, and processing equipment.
• Experience working around high-pressure slurry systems and rotating equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot operational issues and react quickly to changing ground conditions.
• Understanding of safe working practices in construction and tunnelling environments.
• Valid safety certifications such as VCA, SCC, CSCS, or equivalent are an advantage.
• Confined Space Entry certification is an advantage.
• Good communication skills in English.
