What they need

Severn and Wye Smokery Ltd is an award-winning artisan and family-run business situated on the picturesque banks of the River Severn. We produce and supply world renowned smoked and fresh products to various high-class establishments, such as Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Fortnum & Mason, Harrods, and The Ritz.

We are currently looking for a reliable and professional Lorry Driver to join our team, helping us ensure that our products are delivered safely, accurately and on time to our valued customers.

Our drivers play an important role within the business and are often the main point of contact between our company and our customers. We are therefore looking for someone who takes pride in providing a professional service and understands the importance of representing the company to a high standard.

As a Lorry Driver, you will be responsible for completing scheduled deliveries, ensuring that all products are delivered accurately and in good condition, and that any shortages, discrepancies or delivery issues are reported promptly. You will also be responsible for completing and maintaining all relevant delivery paperwork correctly.

Safety is extremely important to us. You will be expected to maintain a safe and competent standard of driving at all times, carry out appropriate vehicle checks and ensure that your vehicle is operated in accordance with company procedures and applicable road transport requirements.

Working pattern

The role involves night-time multi-drop deliveries, completing up to 5 drops per night, with a typical start time of around 7:00/8:00pm.

You will normally work 3 or 4 nights per week, Monday to Friday, with flexibility required to cover additional/full-time hours during periods of annual leave or where reasonably required by the needs of the business.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Completing scheduled customer deliveries safely, efficiently and on time.
  • Checking loads and ensuring deliveries are accurate before leaving site and upon delivery.
  • Completing all required delivery documentation.
  • Carrying out daily vehicle checks and reporting any faults or concerns promptly.
  • Loading and unloading products where required.
  • Maintaining a professional and courteous relationship with customers.
  • Keeping the vehicle clean, safe and presentable.
  • Supporting colleagues and the wider business where reasonably required.

What we are looking for:

You will need to hold the appropriate LGV/HGV driving licence for the vehicle being operated, together with a valid Driver CPC qualification and Digital Tachograph Card where required.

Previous professional driving experience, ideally within multi-drop, food distribution or temperature-controlled deliveries, would be advantageous.

We are particularly interested in someone who is:

  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Safety conscious and responsible.
  • Comfortable working independently.
  • Customer focused and professional.
  • Physically able and willing to assist with loading and unloading where required.
  • Flexible in their approach to working hours and operational requirements.
  • A team player who is willing to support colleagues when needed.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking for a stable driving position within an established business where drivers are a valued part of the operation.

If you are an experienced driver who takes pride in doing the job properly, delivering excellent service and maintaining high standards, we would love to hear from you.

Please send the CV and Covering Letter to: Monika Hoddy, HR & Payroll Manager, Severn & Wye Smokery Ltd, Chaxhill, Westbury-on-Severn, GL14 1QW.

If you have not heard from us within 10 working days of the closing date, please assume your application has been unsuccessful at this time. Due to high levels of applications we are unable to provide individual feedback to candidates.
