What they need
About Solidcor
Solidcor is Britain's fastest-growing fire door manufacturer. We were built in the aftermath of Grenfell by founders who saw the need for rapid change, and our mission has stayed the same since: make volume fire door replacement possible within days, not months, and help the industry achieve compliance and community safety fast.
Our R-Series and T-Series doorsets pair a solid, fire-resistant timber core with a maintenance-free finish, backed by the widest range of primary-tested configurations in the industry and an industry-leading 10-day production turnaround — the fastest in the market. We're trusted by NHS trusts, housing associations, contractors and communities across the UK to deliver doors that protect lives, fast.
We're changing how we recruit. We're not filling seats — we're building a team of the best people in the industry, and we're prepared to pay above the going rate to do it.
A New Factory. A New Standard.
2026 is the year Solidcor moves into a brand-new, state-of-the-art production facility, built from the ground up around a completely new way of working. We're investing in machinery imported from America, Italy, Spain and China — some of the most capable door-manufacturing technology in the world, brought together under one roof.
We're already best in class. This move is how we become world class. We're building an elite team of craftspeople who want to embrace that new way of working from day one and help take Solidcor to the next level.
The Role
As a Bench Joiner, you'll be at the heart of how a genuinely life-safety product gets made — taking certified components and turning them into finished, fully compliant doorsets that will protect people in the buildings they go into. Every joint, every fixing, every finish has to be right, every time. On a fire door, there's no such thing as close enough. Tou’ll own your own area, and be passionate about the life saving device your producing.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble and finish fire door sets to exact certified specifications, working accurately from technical drawings and test evidence.
- Machine, cut and prepare timber and composite components to precise tolerances using bench and power tools.
- Fit ironmongery, hinges, intumescent seals and locking systems in strict accordance with each door's tested configuration.
- Apply facings, veneers and finishes to a standard befitting a premium product.
- Check your own work at every stage — on our line, quality is caught at the bench, not at the end of it.
- Maintain full traceability records for every doorset, supporting Solidcor's compliance and certification standards.
- Keep your bench and work area organised, clean and safe.
- Raise ideas for improving process, quality or pace — we act on good ideas from the shop floor, not just from the top.
What We're Looking For
- Proven bench joinery experience — cabinet making, door or window manufacturing, shopfitting, or a similarly high-tolerance timber trade.
- A genuine pride in precision: you'd notice a hairline gap before anyone had to point it out to you.
- Confidence reading technical drawings and specifications.
- NVQ / City & Guilds in Carpentry & Joinery, or equivalent time-served experience, preferred.
- Experience with fire doors or other certified/regulated products is a strong advantage, though not essential — we'll train the right person on our specific standards and testing requirements.
- Above all, cultural fit. This role is for people who bring our three values to life on the bench every day.
Our Values — What We Actually Hire For
- Athlete's Grit — you turn up and give full effort every shift, even when a job is fiddly or the pace is on. You don't leave a doorset half-right because the clock says five o'clock.
- Captain's Duty — you take ownership of your bench and your standard of work without being asked twice, because you understand exactly what's riding on it — a fire door protecting someone's home.
- Fun-Loving Heart — you take the work seriously and yourself lightly. You're good to stand next to on a long shift, and you help make the workshop a place people want to be.
What You'll Get
- The chance to be part of the founding team in our brand-new, state-of-the-art factory, working with newly imported machinery from America, Italy, Spain and China as we move from best-in-class to world-class.
- A salary set deliberately above the industry standard for bench joiners, because we want the best and we're prepared to pay for it.
- The chance to build genuine craft skill on a premium, technically demanding product — not volume flat-pack work.
- A modern, well-invested production environment as Solidcor continues to grow.
- Real purpose in the work: every door you build makes a building safer.
- Benefits package: pension, holiday entitlement, overtime, breakfast.
