What they need

Mailway Packaging Solutions is one of the UK’s leading contract packaging specialists, working with many blue-chip brands, FMCG manufacturers, and major supermarkets.

We deliver high-quality co-packing, bagging, cartonning, pouching, flow-wrapping, labelling and end-to-end packaging solutions across a wide range of sectors.

As demand continues to grow, we are expanding our engineering and technical capabilities to support innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement across our sites.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Technical Solutions Engineer who thrives on solving complex problems, developing new ideas, and improving existing processes.

This is a hands-on engineering role involving R&D, equipment optimisation, packaging development, automation support, and cross-functional project work.

You will play a key part in helping Mailway deliver smarter, faster, and more reliable packaging solutions to our customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, and implement engineering solutions that improve packaging processes, line performance, and product quality.
  • Support R&D and NPD (New Product Development) activities, including trials, prototyping, and evaluation of new packaging formats or machinery.
  • Work closely with production, commercial, and operations teams to deliver cost-effective and efficient packaging solutions.
  • Assist with the integration, setup, and optimisation of packaging machinery and automation technologies.
  • Lead engineering investigations, identify root causes, and deliver corrective and preventive actions.
  • Provide technical support for customer projects, including blue-chip FMCG clients and leading retailers.
  • Prepare engineering documentation: test reports, line set-up specifications, risk assessments, and technical drawings.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Kaizen, OEE improvement, waste reduction).
  • Evaluate new tools, materials, or technologies that could benefit Mailway or our clients.
  • Ensure all engineering activities follow health, safety, and quality standards.

What We’re Looking For

Required

  • Level 3 or higher qualification and strong experience in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Hands-on problem-solving ability in a fast-paced production or packaging environment.
  • Knowledge of packaging machinery, automation, or product handling equipment.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to translate findings into practical solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Ability to manage multiple technical projects simultaneously.

Desirable

  • Experience in contract packaging, FMCG manufacturing, food production, or a similar environment.
  • Working knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, 5 Whys).
  • CAD skills or familiarity with design/prototyping tools and 3D printing.
  • Practical machine building & modification.

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to work with leading UK brands and major retailers.
  • A varied role with exposure to R&D, engineering design, trials, and innovation.
  • A collaborative work environment where creative ideas and problem-solving are valued.
  • Career development opportunities in a growing organisation.
  • Competitive salary.
