What they need
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and dependable Multi-Trade Maintenance Operative to join our growing maintenance team, carrying out repairs, maintenance and small works across Kent and the South East.
The role will involve working across a variety of commercial and residential properties including schools, offices, managed properties, estate-agent portfolios and other commercial premises.
This is a varied, hands-on position and would suit somebody who is confident completing a wide range of maintenance jobs independently and takes pride in producing a high standard of work.
No two days will necessarily be the same. One day you may be repairing doors and fitting ironmongery within a school, and the next completing plumbing repairs, decorating, plastering or general maintenance within a managed property.
Typical Duties
Work may include:
- Carpentry and joinery repairs
- Door and frame repairs
- Hanging and adjusting doors
- Locks, handles, hinges and ironmongery
- Kitchen repairs and installations
- Basic plumbing repairs
- Replacing taps, wastes and sanitary fittings
- Minor toilet and cistern repairs
- Silicone and sealant work
- Wall and floor tiling
- Patch plastering
- Making good damaged walls and ceilings
- Painting and decorating
- Flooring repairs and installation
- Skirting boards and architraves
- Shelving and storage installation
- Flat-pack and furniture assembly
- General building repairs
- Minor brickwork and pointing
- Fence and gate repairs
- Guttering and drainage maintenance
- Fixture and fitting replacement
- School and commercial property maintenance
- Property inspection and defect repairs
- Small refurbishment works
- Reactive maintenance and emergency repairs
- General handyman and maintenance tasks
The successful candidate will be expected to assess jobs, identify the most appropriate repair, obtain or request the materials required and complete works efficiently and professionally.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Attending scheduled maintenance and repair jobs
- Diagnosing faults and identifying appropriate repairs
- Completing works to a high professional standard
- Taking before and after photographs of completed works
- Accurately recording materials and works completed
- Communicating professionally with customers and site staff
- Keeping your company vehicle clean and organised
- Maintaining appropriate van stock
- Looking after company tools and equipment
- Reporting additional works identified while on site
- Working safely and following company health & safety procedures
- Keeping customers informed where additional works or materials are required
- Working closely with the Operations Manager to ensure jobs are completed efficiently
What We're Looking For
We are looking for somebody with strong practical experience across several trades, rather than someone who specialises in only one area.
Ideally, you will have good experience in at least three or four of the following:
Carpentry | Plumbing | Decorating | Plastering | Tiling | Flooring | General Building | Property Maintenance
You should be:
- Experienced in property maintenance or multi-trade work
- Confident working independently
- Able to diagnose and solve problems
- Comfortable working within occupied properties
- Professional and presentable
- Reliable and punctual
- Able to communicate well with customers
- Organised with good time management
- Able to complete work neatly and efficiently
- Comfortable using a mobile phone/app for job information and photographs
- Able to travel throughout Kent and surrounding areas
A full UK driving licence is essential.
Relevant trade qualifications would be advantageous but practical experience and quality of workmanship are equally important.
Any specialist electrical or gas work must only be undertaken where the employee holds the appropriate qualifications and competency.
Company Vehicle
A company van will be provided together with a fuel card for business use.
The successful candidate will be responsible for keeping the vehicle clean, secure and appropriately stocked with tools and commonly used materials.
Working Hours
Monday to Friday
I would probably make the normal hours something like:
8:00am–4:30pm
with some flexibility required depending on customer requirements.
Occasional early starts or out-of-hours work may be offered, with any additional arrangements agreed separately.
Salary & Benefits
- £38,000–£42,000 per annum depending on experience
- Company van
- Fuel card
- Company pension
- Uniform provided
- Tools/equipment provided or agreed tool allowance
- Monday–Friday working
- No routine weekend working
- Opportunity for overtime
- Growing company with opportunities for progression
- Varied work rather than being based on one site
What Success Looks Like
We want someone who can be given a job and trusted to take ownership of it from start to finish.
The right person will arrive on time, assess the problem, communicate clearly with the customer, complete a high-quality repair and leave the area clean and tidy.
The position would suit somebody who enjoys variety and wants to become an important part of a growing maintenance business.
Pay: £38,000.00-£42,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Company pension
Work Location: In person
