Multi Skilled Maintenance Operative

Job Summary

A medium-sized construction and property maintenance company based in London is looking for an experienced Multi-Trade / Handyman to join our team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out planned, reactive and defect-related maintenance across residential and commercial properties within the company's portfolio. The role involves attending different properties across London, identifying issues, carrying out repairs and ensuring all works are completed safely, professionally and to a high standard.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced, reliable and practical individual who is confident working independently, can diagnose problems on site and has strong skills across several maintenance trades

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to carry out a wide range of general maintenance and repair tasks, including:

Carpentry & Joinery

• Door adjustments, repairs and maintenance
• Installing and replacing door handles, hinges and other basic hardware
• Repairing damaged skirting boards, architraves and trims
• Shelving installation and repairs
• Basic flooring repairs and replacement
• Repairing damaged timber and woodwork
• Hanging and adjusting internal doors
• Basic kitchen and cupboard repairs
• Repairing drawers, hinges and cabinet fittings
• Installing basic fixtures and fittings
• General carpentry and joinery works
• Making good following repairs or alterations

Basic Plumbing

• Repairing leaking taps
• Replacing taps and basic fittings
• Replacing flexible hoses and basic valves
• Repairing toilet mechanisms and replacing basic components
• Repairing leaking toilet cisterns
• Replacing traps and waste fittings
• Unblocking sinks and basic waste pipes
• Replacing shower heads and hoses
• Replacing basic bathroom fittings
• Re-sealing baths, showers, sinks and worktops
• Identifying visible leaks and reporting issues that require specialist attention
• Carrying out basic plumbing repairs within the individual's competence

Painting & Decorating

• Preparing walls, ceilings, doors and woodwork
• Filling holes, cracks and minor damage
• Sanding and preparing surfaces
• Interior painting
• Painting doors, frames, skirting and other surfaces
• Touch-up and remedial painting
• Applying primers and appropriate finishes
• Wallpaper removal where required
• Preparing surfaces ready for decoration
• Maintaining a clean and professional finish

Plastering & Making Good

• Minor plaster repairs
• Patching damaged walls and ceilings
• Filling cracks and holes
• Minor surface repairs
• Repairing damaged plasterboard
• Basic tape and jointing
• Preparing repaired areas for painting
• Making good following maintenance works
• Ensuring repaired areas blend with existing finishes

Tiling

• Replacing damaged wall and floor tiles
• Basic wall tiling
• Basic floor tiling
• Re-grouting
• Removing damaged grout
• Re-sealing around baths, showers and sinks
• Removing and replacing silicone
• Preparing surfaces before tiling
• Making good tiled areas following repairs

Fixtures, Fittings & General Handyman Works

• Installing curtain rails and blinds
• Installing shelves and brackets
• Hanging pictures, mirrors and other suitable fixtures
• Installing basic wall-mounted fittings
• Repairing handles, hinges and catches
• Furniture assembly
• Flat-pack furniture assembly
• Basic kitchen and bathroom fixture repairs
• Replacing damaged fixtures and fittings
• Silicone and sealant works
• Minor repairs to internal finishes
• General making-good works
• Maintaining a clean and professional standard of finish ship qualities, and dedication to excellence!

Licence / Certification

• Full UK Driving Licence — required
• CSCS Card — where applicable to the site
• Relevant trade qualifications — desirable, not essential for general non-specialist handyman work
