What they need

Role purpose

The Multi-Skilled Operative carries out a broad range of mould remediation, insulation, finishing and property-maintenance works across TMC contracts. The role is responsible for completing work safely, efficiently and to a consistently high standard while protecting residents' homes, communicating professionally and supporting projects from preparation through to final completion.

We currently work throughout the Kirklees area in West Yorkshire, Flintshire and Denbighshire in North Wales and the Mansfield and Nottingham area and would be looking to recruit local to these areas though some travelling is to be expected. This specific role will include working throughout the Mansfield, Rykneld, Chesterfield & Nottingham areas.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out mould treatment works in line with company procedures, product instructions and the job specification.
  • Undertake gutter cleaning and associated external maintenance works using the correct access equipment and safe systems of work.
  • Prepare surfaces and apply Corksol or other approved thermal-insulation and specialist coating systems to the required specification.
  • Complete plastering, patch repairs, making good, painting and finishing work to a neat, consistent and professional standard.
  • Carry out other property-maintenance and remedial services offered by TMC when trained, competent and authorised to do so.
  • Manage allocated work from start to finish, including preparation, protection of the work area, completion, cleaning and final quality checks.
  • Use dust sheets, masking and other protection to safeguard tenants' belongings, flooring, fixtures and surrounding surfaces.
  • Identify defects, unexpected conditions or additional work requirements and report them promptly to the relevant manager or office team.
  • Provide clear updates on progress, access issues, delays and completion status, including photographs and paperwork where required.
  • Work flexibly across the company's current and future geographical areas, including occasional overnight stays when reasonably required.
  • Support colleagues and contribute to the smooth running of wider contracts during busy periods or where specialist skills are needed.

Health, safety and compliance

  • Follow all risk assessments, method statements, COSHH controls, site rules and company health and safety procedures.
  • Use personal protective equipment and tools correctly, completing pre-use checks and reporting defects without delay.
  • Only undertake tasks, operate equipment or work at height where appropriate training and authorisation are in place.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and well-organised working area and leave each property secure, tidy and fit for the resident's use.
  • Report accidents, near misses, safeguarding concerns, property damage and health and safety issues immediately.

Customer service and quality

  • Treat tenants, customers, colleagues and client representatives with courtesy and respect at all times.
  • Explain the planned work clearly, manage expectations appropriately and refer complaints or technical queries to the correct person.
  • Work in occupied homes with care, maintaining privacy and minimising disruption wherever reasonably possible.
  • Check the finish and cleanliness of every job before leaving and correct any issues within the operative's control.
  • Represent TMC professionally through conduct, appearance, workmanship and care of company property.

Vehicle, tools and company property

  • Keep any allocated company vehicle clean, secure and roadworthy, completing required checks and reporting faults or damage promptly.
  • Use the company vehicle and fuel card only in accordance with company policy and the terms of employment.
  • Look after tools, equipment, materials and stock; store them securely and report losses, damage or shortages.

Skills, experience and attributes

  • Practical experience in one or more relevant trades, such as plastering, mould remediation, decorating, insulation, gutter cleaning or general property maintenance.
  • Willingness and ability to train across the full range of services required for the role.
  • Good attention to detail and pride in achieving a high-quality finish.
  • Able to organise workload, follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Confident communicating with tenants, clients, managers and office-based colleagues.
  • Reliable, punctual, adaptable and willing to travel in line with operational requirements.
  • Able to carry out the physical requirements of the role safely, with reasonable adjustments considered where appropriate.

Essential requirements

  • Full UK driving licence, unless an alternative arrangement has been formally agreed.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Ability to complete required training and comply with company policies and client requirements.
  • Satisfactory employment checks and references where required by the company or client contract.

Working arrangements

The role is primarily field based. Weekend overtime may be available depending on business requirements and must be approved in advance. Pay, overtime rates, annual leave, pension arrangements, bonus eligibility, travel payments and any subsistence or accommodation provisions are governed by the employee's offer letter, employment contract and applicable company policies.

General

This job description reflects the main duties of the role. It is not an exhaustive list. The postholder may be asked to carry out other reasonable duties within their skills and competence as the business, services and client requirements develop.
