What they need

MULTI-SKILLED MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

Classic Care Homes | Brookfield & Faversham Nursing Homes

Full-Time | 40 Hours per Week | Monday–Friday
Location: Urmston, Greater Manchester
Salary: Competitive, dependent on skills and experience

Can you fix it, fit it, paint it, plumb it or make it look brand new? We need YOU!

Are you the person everyone calls when something breaks?

Can you walk into a room, spot five things that need fixing and already have a plan before anyone's finished explaining the problem?

Do you know your way around a toolbox better than most people know their way around Netflix?

Then we might just have the perfect job for you!

At Classic Care Homes, we're looking for a talented, experienced and genuinely hands-on Multi-Skilled Maintenance Technician to help look after two of our nursing homes in Urmston.

And we're not looking for someone who simply puts an Out of Order sign on something and walks away.

We're looking for someone who says, "Leave it with me, I'll sort it!"

What will you be doing?

A bit of everything, really! No two days will be the same, and that's exactly how we like it.

  • Painting & Decorating: From refreshing bedrooms to transforming communal areas. If you can produce a professional finish without painting the carpet, we're already impressed!
  • Plumbing: Leaky taps, troublesome toilets, blocked sinks, minor pipework repairs and general plumbing maintenance.
  • Electrical Know-How: Confident identifying faults, replacing appropriate fittings and understanding electrical safety. Formal qualifications for electrical work would be a fantastic bonus.
  • Carpentry & Joinery: Doors, locks, cupboards, shelving, skirting boards, repairs and general woodwork.
  • General Building Maintenance: Minor repairs, plastering, tiling, flooring and keeping our buildings looking their best.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Spotting problems before they become expensive headaches.
  • Health & Safety: Completing routine checks, maintaining accurate records and helping us keep our homes safe and compliant.
  • Gardens & Outdoor Areas: Keeping external areas safe, tidy and well maintained.
  • Contractor Coordination: Knowing when a job needs a specialist and making sure external contractors deliver the work properly.

And yes, occasionally there will be a mysterious noise, a door that refuses to close or something that apparently worked perfectly yesterday!

Who are we looking for?

We're not expecting you to hold every trade qualification under the sun.

But we do want someone with proper hands-on experience and a broad range of practical trade skills.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • Strong experience in property maintenance, building maintenance or a skilled trade.
  • Excellent painting and decorating skills, with pride in the finished result.
  • Practical plumbing, carpentry and general repair skills.
  • Good working knowledge of electrical systems and an understanding of what work requires a qualified electrician.
  • The confidence to diagnose problems and find sensible, cost-effective solutions.
  • The ability to organise your own workload and prioritise urgent repairs.
  • A proactive attitude — you notice things that need doing without waiting to be asked.
  • A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel between our two homes.
  • Good communication skills and a friendly, approachable personality.

Most importantly, we want someone who genuinely takes pride in their work.

Someone who doesn't believe in "that'll do", but prefers "that's done properly."

Why working in a care home is different

This isn't a factory, warehouse or building site.

Our nursing homes are people's homes.

The work you do directly contributes to the comfort, dignity and safety of the people who live with us.

Whether you're repairing someone's bedroom door, making a bathroom safer or giving a tired communal area a fresh coat of paint, your work makes a real difference.

You'll be working around residents, families and care teams, so kindness, patience, professionalism and a good sense of humour are just as important as what's in your toolbox.

What we're offering

  • A permanent, full-time position — 40 hours per week.
  • A competitive salary reflecting your skills and experience.
  • Variety, independence and the opportunity to put your skills to good use.
  • The chance to work across two established nursing homes.
  • A supportive team that values initiative and practical problem-solving.
  • The satisfaction of seeing the difference your work makes every day.

Think you're our maintenance superhero?

You don't need a cape. A decent toolbox and a can-do attitude will do just fine!

If you're a skilled, reliable all-rounder who loves fixing things, enjoys a challenge and takes pride in doing a job properly, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today and tell us what you can do!

We're particularly interested in hearing about your practical trade experience, the types of work you're confident undertaking and what makes you a great all-round maintenance professional.
